34studepres
I installed an NOS throwout bearing in my '32 Chevy Confederate. Every time I push in the clutch it squeals like a pig. Was I supposed to soak that bearing in oil or something before I installed it? Or is it something else? Thanks. tom griffith/wisconsin
Guest
I never install any NOS bearing without cleaning it thoroughly and re lubing it, even if it means removing and replacing a seal.
34studepres
As I said, I did not lube it at all before installing it. Should I take it back out and coat it with grease or soak it in oil or what?
chistech
new carbon bearings should be oiled with some light motor oil to impregnate the bearing. Most will squeal some when first new.
34studepres
Yes I have tried the lighter penetrating oil as well as regular 30 weight and it’s gotten a little better but still it’s quite annoying.
Bill Masters
34studepres, how are you lubricating the throwout bearing with it in the car?
34studepres
I am all oiling it through that little oiler cup with the flip up cap attached to the throwout bearing underneath the inspection cover.
Bill Masters
Perhaps enough oil has not yet seeped into the bearing. If, over time, the reservoir's oil-level is going down, keep adding oil.
34studepres
Will do.
Bill Masters
The reservoir will not remain full. Fill it and give it time to work. You should add oil only when the bearing is squeaking.
