Guest
I purchased a 1950 Buick about a year ago and can't find the VIN # for the inspection so can't regester it. Heard that its stamped on the frame somewherr. If so where? bratty_brat@yahoo.com
Guest
Ive had both a 51 & 52 Buicks so the locations should be the same. If it is a 2 door, the VIN tag is by the door striker plate on the driver's side. If its a 4 door, it is usually on the front pillar of the drivers door. My shop manual says the VIN number can also be found on the frame approximately where the brake master cylinder is bolted on at
Bill Stoneberg
On my 1950 Estate Wagon the VIN number is also stamped on the frame behing the drivers side rear door.<BR>It is on the top framerail though, so the only way you can see it is with the body off.<BR>Bill
old-tank
some states like Texas used the motor number as the VIN on the title...so if the number you find on the door pillar doesn't match...<P>Willie

Fred Rawling
I tried to register my 1950 in California and had to fight with DMV to get them to use the vin number on the door. They finally used the engine number after calling Sacramento and I got the car registered. Two months later someone hit the car and the insurance company salvaged it. I whet to re register it and DMV would not accept the numbers that they previously used and I had to have the Highway Patrol verify the vin number. The officer was an old car guy and tried to find the number on the frame but could not. He did clean off the top of the frame below the master cylinder using solvant and reveiled a blue color tag but there was no number visable. I finally had to settle for a tag rivited to the door post. <BR>
Guest oldtimer
i had the same problem in california, but i got lucky and found the plate in the car under the seat. on the `50 its screwed yes, screwed to the pillar on the inside drivers front door (body not door). the other place according to the book is on top of the frame rail by the master cylinder (i looked everywhere by the master and couldn't find it). Fred Rawling
I registered a 1930 Buick once and had to show the lady at DMV the paragraph in the code book which said that I was exempt from all the non operational fees, etc. and then I had to read her the paragraph with the correct punctuation to get her to understand it. I won!
Guest oldtimer
yea, my friend and i just finished his `30 model a about 7 months ago and ran into a similar problem. in california after a car is out of registration for 5 years its taken off the computer, to re-register it you ONLY have to pay for the year you are it to bring it current. also when i registered my `60 el camino a few years back....... they asked me for a smog,i said...ummm its a `60. then proceded to tell them that no smog was needed before 1965 (at that time, now its 1974). moral of the story.......pay the 3 bux and get a vehicle code book. SBRMD
Are the VIN locations as listed above the same for '49 Roadmasters/Supers? Furthermore, does the small cowl tag often found to the right of the main cowl tag (the one that lists model #, paint code, etc.)also list the VIN, or is this some other number?<P>Thanks in advance,<BR>Steve.
