SOLD! Thanks.

PRICE REDUCED AGAIN TO 24,500.00

This 1961 Pontiac Bonneville Two Door Hardtop was purchased by the current owner in 1999. When he bought this desirable Pontiac, it was a well preserved and solid car that had just been given a thorough, cosmetic restoration.

Upon close inspection, this was always a solid and well preserved car. There is some minimal evidence of light body work on the sills beneath the doors, but it is hardly noticeable unless you really get up close. It was done prior to being purchased in 1999 and still remains in excellent condition. The body lines are crisp and clear throughout. The overall fit and finnish is extremely impressive. This car looks great from all angles. Underneath, the floor pans, trunk pan, door bottoms, etc tell the story that that was always a well cared for car. The underneath of the car still retains much of its original paint and the floor pans are crisp. Nothing is being hidden or covered up.

The exterior paint was probably redone about 20 years ago. Today, it still shows extremely well.  There are a few tiny imperfections that could be easily removed if desired, but they really are not very noticeable. The paint has an excellent and consistent overall gloss. The chrome and stainless trim is extremely nice.

The interior is likely to be mostly original. The seats and door panels appear to be original. They are extremely clean and well preserved. The carpets have been replaced. The dashboard is extremely clean and all of the gauges are crisp and clear. The windows roll up smoothly and seal well.

Under the hood, the engine bay is clean and presentable. The heads have been recently removed and completely rebuilt with hardened valve seats.  The engine starts and runs great. The automatic transmission has also been recently rebuilt and shifts smoothly. The power brakes and steering have been serviced and operate with precision. The lights, gauges, horn, wipers, interior lights, etc all function properly.  This car runs down the road smoothly and assertively with no creaks, rattle or groans. It really flies down the highway effortlessly.

The car is equipped with a set of desirable, 8 Lug wheels which have been fitted newer tires. A set of standard wheels and hubcaps are included as well as a set of correct set of accessory remote outside mirrors.

This scarce and desirable Pontiac "bubble top"  has always been mechanically and cosmetically maintained. It has been regularly used and has never sat idle during the last 19 years. It is certainly ready to show or drive with confidence.

It is being sold with a clear and current Michigan title. Priced attractively at 37,500.00. Located near Ann Arbor, Michigan.

As others have said, I'm amazed this car hasn't sold.  I still remember, as a twelve-year-old, when I had my first look (in LIFE magazine) at the '61 Pontiacs in the fall of 1960, and it was love at first sight!  I know this isn't much consolation to a seller who's not getting any action, but if I had room for another car, I would be all over this. Love the car, love the color, love the bubble-top.  Someone out there has to feel the same way!

Agreed, this is a great looking car at a fair price.

Several years ago, after a lengthy search through all of Van Kaufman & Art Fitzpatrick's works for General Motors, I finally settled on this '61 Bonneville to grace the wall of my mid-century themed office.

Wow.  What is really surprising is that Pontiac post war collector-geeks consider these 61 bubbletop Pontiacs some of the most desirable.  You see shells of 61 Pontiac bubbletops in poor condition for $5000 to $7000 requiring $100,000 of restoration.  The only thing I can think of here is the Pontiac geeks want the speed gee gaws like tri power and perhaps bucket seats.  They also "somewhat" prefer the Catalinas.  For my money, this is it!   1st, it has the 8 lug wheelset. 2nd, as others have noted - the colors are phenomenal.  White washes out on these, black is too dark.  Red is perfect.

Time to go to ebay. For whatever reason, the buyers must not know about this car.

Yowza, that's nice! For anyone who's interested in this car, I know where there's a parts car in the city where I live - '61 2 door bubble top. You can PM me. Doesn't look like this pretty car needs any parts, but some people like to be prepared. The frame of the parts car is rusted extensively, so I would categorize it as "unrestorable" .

Amazing how much some of the Chevy guys love early 60's Impalas when GM made spectacular cars like this at the same time.
