Salisbury Differential

Just started a full restoration on a 1920 Davis Phaeton Tourer. Crown wheel and pinion both badly chipped and will need replacement.

Prefer to replace if I can as costs of repairs will be substantial. Looking for 1920s Salisbury differential to source these parts. Can anyone help ?

Differential cover has 12 bolts.

Hollander Manual, 1937,  lists following: Rear ends interchangeable 

ratios,  45, 47, 51-10       33-8

 

Anderson     '20-23     over 3000

Auburn         '20-22     6-51H

Davis            '19-21     51, 61, 67

Elcar             '20-26     8-80, 81

                       6D, H, K

Page             '21           6-43, 44

R & V Kn       '20-22      4 cyl

1922 Paige? Have a look at this thread. Still unidentified, but could be a 1922-ish Paige.

The diff in that thread looks like it's been exposed to the elements for a while. There may be nothing worthwhile to salvage.

Thanks for all the information on the Salisbury differential and possible alternatives. Will place request for a 1920 - 21 Paige or Auburn differential.

Hi All

I have found a 1924 Case Car chassis with a Colombia differential that the crown wheel and pinion are a perfect match for my Salisbury differential . Davis used Colombia differentials in both their earlier and later models, after the year of my car ( 1920 ).

What is even better , is that the gearing ratio is better than what I originally had , so it looks like I will get some more speed from the car.
