Did you unscrew the chrome plated "Antenna Cap Nut" before trying to get the antenna mast out?

That's the thing you see on the top of the right quarter panel with the 4 notches in it. It requires a special tool to remove it without damaging the chrome plating, but if you were smart and purchased a mast package from a Chrysler dealer, you would get a new cap nut with the antenna mast package.

Ours looks virtually the same. Can you show us the mast package so the steel cable that is plastic coated is clearly visible ?

There is no mast package..... all the GM units have a metal "J" hook at the bottom end that hooks into the spool.

On the top end the plastic or metal cord attaches to the bottom of the top section of the mast.    The originals  are "staked" with some dimples.

Since the replacement I use is steel I silver solder it to the end of the mast.... don't have pictures.   Also the overall length of the original plastic cords varies some from car line and year, so I custom cut the to length as

I do the rebuild.    I do have a photo showing the original plastic next to the plastic coated steel.

The Delco cord was smooth plastic..... Chinese replacement have plastic cords with teeth,  these are available on Ebay
