Old buicks 2 Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 The guy the "turned down $250,000" must have been crazy. this car is gonna take a LOT of work. 2
midman Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 The guy who turned down 250k, had 230k in the trunk.
dibarlaw Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 Thanks Kevin for posting. Also note wrong headlights. Looks to be that as my friend would say "he went through Pep Boys with a magnet". Interesting later period turn signals and brake light. Looks to have a Sparton Chime Bugle mounted on the front. I do love these Sport roadsters. Where did the 1923 6 cylinder Buick ever achieve 115 Miles per Hour??? The 1923-54 I first started my quest "for a driver Buick" was more like $20,000 and still needed to be sorted out. But it was to be running, driving with nice paint, plating, top and GREAT original Spanish Grain leather! Most importantly ..NO RUST. Since then I have come across at least 6 more including Mr.Rose's fabulous original in VA. I have seen at least 3 with the wire wheels. There was one with wire wheels pretty original in a museum in central Virginia. Any of these I have seen for sale in restored condition are usually at the upper $20K to $30 K range. That price is similar to the Sport touring cars. I offered on several restorable model 55s.
BuicksBuicks Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 A stock 1923 6 cyl. roadster that has done 115 mph? Laugh, I don't think my pants will ever dry. 1
dibarlaw Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 But they are sure pretty when they are restored. An example of a wire wheel job across the sea. 1
Pete Phillips Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 This ad is so ridiculous that it hardly deserves to be commented on, but I will anyway! Notice the location shown in the map with the listing is New York City, although it is apparently advertised in the Dallas, Texas Craig's List. Probably no one in New York will take the seller seriously. Even if this car was in perfect, restored condition, I still don't think it would bring $50,000, which is what the seller is asking for this one in poor condition. I don't think I would even give $5,000 for it, with all the visible rust and needing wood replacement.
dibarlaw Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 Yes Pete: I agree.. I think the only real value are the 6 wire wheels and the newer tires. Of all the model 54s and 55s I have chased, even the project cars were not rust buckets as this one is.
JayG Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 The same car just came up on Facebook at $10,000 https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/2698959496988586/?ref=search&referral_code=undefined 1
Pete Phillips Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 One sentence of description and one photo. I don't think he is going to get much response to that. 2
dibarlaw Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 (edited) OOPS... I see I came in on the tail end of this original thread and have repeated myself. I seem to remember this car on Ebay several years ago at over $50,000. Photos I saved at the time. VERY ROUGH. It does have nice wire wheels. Incorrect larger headlights. Below is the one I agreed to buy for $20,000 back in 2010 on the stipulation that it ran and we could drive it. It did not. After several weeks of negotiation and driving 9 hrs. to try the car out the owner's comment/excuse was that it still needed sorting out. If it did indeed drive at that time all here on the Forum would have been regaled with our experiences in this car. We really wanted this Sport Roadster! Lovely ORIGINAL Spanish Grain interior!
