EASTERN DIVISION NAT'L SPRING MEET JULY 11-14

Recommended Posts

Haven't seen much action about this Event here so starting this NEW Topic Post to hear you're interests.

The Registration Dead Line has past. I'll be going, it's location is in Gettysburg Pa. which is a great place to visit and have a Show at. I live in New Freedom Pa. about a hours drive for me, all Country Roads and I can come and go home each day that I attend. The Daily Schedule from Chesapeake Region looks like a lot of fun with interesting places to tour. The Show Saturday July 14th is what interests me the most.

In case anyone here does not know, Gettysburg Bike Week runs Wednesday July 11 through Sunday July 15th. Friends (and fellow AACA Members) tell me that traffic will be heavier than normal in the Gettysburg area during this time (more so Friday & Saturday) and backups will/do occur close to Bike Week event sites in the area. There are a number of motorcycle rides through the area and they will be touring the Gettysburg Battlefields as well.

My friends also tell me that Battlefield Harley Davidson is one of the busy spots for this event especially on the Saturday of Bike Week. Battlefield HD is literally one road down off Route 30 (Cavalry Field Rd) from the AACA Host Hotel and show field (Gateway Blvd). Given the traffic in that area on Saturday morning those coming to the meet that morning should probably give themselves extra time to get to the meet. This is especially true if you are using Route 30 Westbound  to get to the meet that morning.

Charlier's message is good advice.

The traffic in the center of Gettysburg on weekends during the summer can be very busy and I suggest that to get to the Wyndam Hotel  at (95 Presidential Circle, Gettysburg Pa. 17325) it would be best not to take Route 30.

Fortunately the Hotel Location is not down town, it's to the East of Town. Use GPS, or a Map to see how you can use Route 15 which runs North and South on the East side of Gettysburg. Route 15 is a Four Lane Hwy with Exit Ramps and can handle the traffic.

My friends are also Motorcycle enthusiasts who go to Gettysburg Bike Week. They told me the other day that the biggest problem will be in downtown Gettysburg with all the bike traffic. It's pretty jammed up in town during bike week with motorcycles. Everyone needs to be aware that sightseeing in downtown will more difficult than normal (crowded) and LOUD due to all the motorcycles.

I would imagine that the region running this meet will communicate more details about the meet parking, etc in the next week or so if they have developed a system or plan.

We had a sneak-preview of the site and facilities this past week.  Susan and I attended MG-2018 at the same location.  We drove our 74 MGBGT up from the Tidewater Va area in company with some others from our local club.  The entire campus is absolutely wonderful with plenty of room.  The main hotels are really nice and are fairly new.  It's a perfect setting for a car show and we're looking forward to coming back for this event.  It's right off Rt 15 on Rt 30.  You shouldn't have to get into traffic unless you want to go through town.  On site there is an excellent restaurant/brew pub and just down the road a bit on 30 to the west you'll find plenty of other eateries from a small diner to fast food.  Everything is so convenient!   I understand a lot of car clubs have discovered this facility and are hosting meets there.  It was a real pleasure to simply walk from the hotel to everything!

See you there!

Well, since they have about 500 cars coming that probably means 499 trailers.  They are reserve parking at host the registered trailers and will park them with a system so we can get in and out of them and pull the trailers out. For those coming up the day  of show they have reserved spaces for registered trailers.  This will be good I hope

There will be far less than 499 trailers!  Eastern meet in PA will bring out a lot of cars that are driven to the meet not to mention the DPC cars.  Trailer parking is always an issue but the group has worked hard on getting all the details right.  Now just lets have some good weather!

From what I have seen the Region hosting this meet has been working very hard on the details.

Amen on the good weather. About two weeks before we might have to start crossing our fingers and toes for good weather. ?

Glad we've had a few weeks with fingers and toes uncrossed after the AGNM to get ready. ?

FYI, I received a mailing yesterday from the host region that contained a "Trailer Parking" Dash Card, a map of the Host Hotel Complex and a letter with "Arrival Instructions". The map shows the various show fields labeled with letters and entrances, two trailer parking areas, judges parking, vendor and car corral parking, the Show Day registration area where show packets can be picked up on Saturday. The letter goes over various bits of information. It also states that swap meet vendors and judges will receive a mailing with parking dash cards as well.

Hope this helps.

Looking forward to this event. Will be driving our Electra from NY and hope to do all the tours. Having it judged for the first time. Depending on how it does (correct tires unavailable) and what will be needed to maybe have it judged again, either that or put it into HPOF or DPC the next time.

The Tire Point Deductions have been lowered and shouldn't hurt you.  I joined AACA and started Showing in 2012, and I took the same approach you indicated in expecting not to do well at first, but learn what I would need to to do for the next year or Show. I Love Wrenching, Detailing, Polishing, finding Parts and Documentation. I spend a lot of my spare time in my favorite place, the garage. You're going to enjoy doing the same and the best part is everyone at the Shows, especially those in your Class, the Judges, and others will give you great advise and help getting things done.  Also, just being there at the Shows is amazing. This is a good one coming, and followed by Hershey October 13th are going to be great Shows.

Oh forgot to mention, I to drive my car to all the Shows. Longest drive was to 155 miles, coming and going in pouring rain to Williamsport for the 2016 Grand National.

Best way to travel is in a vintage car.

The current forecast for Gettysburg is looking good. 85 to 89 degrees July 11th Wednesday thru Friday the 13th, and  Saturday 87 Cloudy Humid with 30% chance of an afternoon Thunderstorm, Sunday 88 Sunny and Humid. This will change as we get closer to the dates so look for updates and plan accordingly.

It will be interesting to see how MUCH the weather forecast

changes, Doug.  I think they're pretty accurate predicting

temperatures 2 to 3 days out, but they don't do nearly so well

predicting passing showers or thunderstorms, even a day out.

Seven or eight days ahead, they're just guessing!

Let's have fun checking their accuracy.

I road through the Site at the Hotel and Show field area today. This is early in the 4 days of the show, people are arriving so can't say much more them 511 are expected to show come Saturday. There were Venders setting up and think I saw 5 or 6, did not see any sign, or mention of a Flea Market today.

papafarm...I would contact the region for some facts.  Last time I was at the Gettysburg Meet there was a decent amount of vendors.  Also Hershey is large however there are others that have many vendors (The Hornets Nest Region meets at Charlotte come to mind where the vendor area is packed on the infield of the track).

Go to the the people running the venue for facts.  Hate to see you not come only to find out the vendor area was decent.

I hope someone can answer this , I have a 1910 car registered for the meet and planed to arrive Saturday morning, I didn't choose "trailer parking"

when I registered because I thought it was for the folks who had planned on being there for the week or for RV's. I always thought there was show car trailer parking

at  every National Meet. If the AACA wants to encourage  the participation of brass era cars then they need to state in the registration that if you are trailering you

need to pay the extra fee. I hope that the AACA has considered those of us who couldn't  or don't want to  drive our freshly restored vintage car to an event to be told that there is no parking available.

I suggest that you contact the Meet Chair or the Registration Chair since they are best equipped to answer your questions/concerns.

Given that the meet is underway it might be best to call them on their listed phone number since they may not have access to email.

Couple of quick travel notes using GPS or Maps.........To find the Hotel, which is easy,  look for Gateway Blvd.  (W. Presidential Dr.)

The Gateway Building and the Host Hotel are very visible from Rt. 15 and Route 30.

Route 30 is also called York Road.

Above locations are at the intersection of Route 15 and Route 30.

Worst case find some Harley Davis Motor cycles and follow them.

The Harley Dealership is a stones throw East of our Meet Location on Route 30.

We are going past the show tomorrow to attend the first day of the huge Carlisle Mopar show. We might swing back in on the way home to see the swap meet. Can anyone comment on how many vendors were set up today(Thursday)? Of course, we’ll be back Saturday morning for the show. Thanks.

Just whatever you do DO NOT follow HD motorcycles on Saturday morning.

That is unless you want to get STUCK in the traffic going to the HD dealer on Saturday for their open house.  ?

The Battlefield Harley Davidson Dealer Ship is on Cavalry Field Rd. and Route 30 (York Rd.) further East of Gateway Blvd. where we turn off 30 to get to our Host Hotel.

I don't expect there to be a problem, I was half kidding about following a Harley to the area we will be at......however, worst case they actually might escort you to our show area. The Bikers up hear are good people.  ?

Doug, I was kidding also. I know a number of motorcycle owners, good people all.

I am staying at the host hotel for the meet here. Before sunset I plan to take a walk around the show field to take a look at the large numbers of vehicles that are already on the show field. ?

Today I spoke with a few of the region members who were parking trailers. They told me they expect about 110 more trailers will be coming to the show on Saturday morning. Given the logistics of the trailer parking area and show field, it would seem advisable that all show car owners coming on Saturday morning get here as early as possible. Just a reminder that the show field opens at 7:00 AM tomorrow and judging begins at 11:00 AM.

Excellent Meet, some one earlier posted that it sounded like it was going to be a MINI Hershey with 511 cars.....which is a good description.  The weather was good, on the hot side in the afternoon but to be expected this time of year. There was a collection of really high quality vehicles here from all Classes. Thank you Chesapeake AACA for the amazing job you did, it was to the highest level and you should all be congratulated.

I have on youtube a four part Video of many of the vehicles. I didn't get to all of the fields due to time and heat.

You can see these if you go on youtube, or just click the red pop up arrows below on each of the  pictures to start each video.

I agree, great show.  This complex has become popular with many car club events and is a great venue.  The cars were indeed at a high level of quality.  One question though, when did it become acceptable for AACA Meet dash plaques to be cheap refrigerator magnets?  Is this to be the new norm?

Just got back to Long Island from the AACA  Eastern Spring Meet in Gettysburg.  I want to thank everyone from The Chesapeake AACA  Chapter for all the  hard work that went into making Gettysburg a  great meet! The  cars on display were spectacular,  the owners very friendly, and even though the Flea Market  was small, i picked up a lot of interesting items to take home.  Greatly appreciate it. Thanks, John
