Turbinator Posted June 18, 2018 Posted June 18, 2018 Gents, l love the ride of my Riviera. I put on some new gas shocks and had the 808 Saginaw steering box rebuilt. The replacement steering box is a close ratio steering box. I count 2.5 turns lock to lock. With the new steering box and new shocks the steering has measurably improved. The close ratio steering box and new shocks give me that boulevard ride. The old shocks and old steering box made me feel like I was taking the Riv on a magic carpet ride. RRB
telriv Posted June 18, 2018 Posted June 18, 2018 VERY HAPPY TO HEAR YOU'RE PLEASED WITH THE NEW BOX BOB.
Seafoam65 Posted June 18, 2018 Posted June 18, 2018 Bob, did you go with the Bilsteins on the shocks?
Turbinator Posted June 18, 2018 Author Posted June 18, 2018 Winston, I did get the Bilsteins from a gent who advertises in The Riviera. The gent was out of Atlanta. Cars drives and rides real good. RRB 1

The steering box and shocks have measurable improvement to my liking. Still, you know you have the boulevard ride while the front end is planted on the highway. Feels good, all along the character of the ride and steering are still 100% 63 Buick Riviera. RRB

I also, replaced rubber on the sway bars and track bar. I sent my 808 steering box to Tom Telesco who had it rebuilt or rebuilt it himself- I forgot to ask. I put the rebuilt steering box back in and with some lifting help. After the bolts were torqued up to 70 lbs. the car drives and rides very good. I don't have to concentrate on keeping the car in the lane. The car does not wander around in the lane anymore. Oh, also got a new front end alignment per Tom's alignment spec's. Drives real good, BUT you know it has the 'boulevard ride. Stay Well, 'Red Riviera Bob
