MBL
Does anyone know what part #'s could be used for the 1955 Packard 400 starter?I have the Delco Remy # 1107635 number but is there another that I might be better able to get at the local NAPA or AutoZone?TimMBL
Guest Kevin AZ
Tim.....1107635 matches the Delco-remy starter sitting on my bench, freshly removed from my 1955 400. Why not have that one rebuilt if necessary?
Guest
I had the D-R starter for my 1955 Clipper Custom rebuilt locally in New Bedford Mass. They had it a day and they even put a new drive in it. The parts are readily available. Most reputable Starter and Generator-Alternator rebuilders can fix that starter in a hurry. Don't get robbed by getting a rebuilt from a parts supplier. You'll pay top dollar for what could turn out to be a dud.
MBL
Yeah I guess thats what I'm doin. I took it out last night. I heard of a pretty good rebuild shop around here and I figure its for the best. Its just annoying because it was just working like 2 weeks ago. Oh well.... About how much should it cost?TimMBL
Guest
I don't think it was over $50.00. Its worth it when you consider what Kanter and some of the others get for a starter. I know you almost have to be a contorsionist to get the unit in and out. Are you sure its the Starter or is the solenoid gone?Bob
MBL
The solenoid clicks and the starter occasionally struggles to move. I will have the whole thing rebuilt for that money. It wasn't that bad getting out though. I had previously broke my arm in two places to replace the plugs in my Tbird so I was able to reach around the steering linkage arlight. TimMBL

MBL
My email is midnightbowlersleague@yahoo.com I don't know where that other stuff came from. Do you have someone to rebuild starters? I am leaving town for about a week and was sending a friend to drop off my starter at a rebuild place but if you have one or know a good place let me know. I will not get my email until at least sunday so if you can post on the thread that would be great! I can't get my email from work. TimMBL
