Summershandy
Thought I'd try here. No big deal just curious. On my '54 Pontiac StarChief there is a springy clip on one end of the battery cover. All cables are accounted for and held down. The clip doesn't push down as to hold something to me and is only on one end. There doesn't seem to be one missing on the other end. I found a pic online and there's another vehicle with the same clip with nothing with it. I'm kinda perplexed.
Spinneyhill
No idea. But it looks like something goes into that rectangular hole in the top and the metal clip is the retainer for it.

franklinman
There was originally a longish thin cover that spanned the top of the main battery hold down that your clip held in place. The idea was that removing it allowed access to the battery fill caps. Many ended up being discarded, as apparently your has been.

I believe that for Buick it was a one year only for V8 model 53 Super and Roadmaster. I have one that I could photograph later if interested. Summershandy
As always thanks again guys! Guess the pic I saw had the cover missing also. I had seen solid covers but I didn't know it was a separate piece. I may source one again thanks Joe.

straight8pontiac
Hello Summershandy, Just recently brought my car out of winter storage and was able to take a few photos which may help you. This is the center section for the battery cover which you have. Notice the right end has a tab extending downward which presses into the right side of your cover in post #7 and the left end will fit under your tab of the existing cover. Hope this helps- Dave
Summershandy
How much for shipping? LOL! Thanks Dave, that helps a lot. Maybe I can find one at a yard sometime. Cheers!
Summershandy
I finally made a battery cover. It may not be as detailed as the original but it works and for zero cost I'm ok with it. Looks like it could use a decal or something delco-ish. Thanks Dave for the pics to give me the idea!
