Guest
For about the last year and a half, I have been driving around in my 89 Reatta (141K) with the following problem: In the mornings, or if the car sits for more than about 5 hours, it has a hard time getting out of first gear. I have to rev it up real high, then when it settles down it will slip into 2nd and will be fine after that until it goes cold again. It has become my morning ritual. I always assumed it was transmission going bad and could deal with it instead of paying $2000+ for a tranny job.I just came across this site http://www.glue.umd.edu/~singletn/web/pages/at2.html which describes the same exact problem on a Ford Explorer. It says the problem could be with the speed governor, not the tranny.Anyone have any opinion or experience with this? Is there a procedure anywhere for checking the governor on a Reatta?
