Derek, I was thinking the original Buick V-6 was a part of the Nailhead V-8 family, just fewer cylinders and NOT utilized until something smaller was needed for the compact Specials and Skylarks in the early 1960s (Buick not having a six cylinder engine and obviously NOT wanting to use the Chevy six cylinder in those cars). Seems like that "innovative" engine got the Buicks a "Motor Trend Car of the Year" award?

The mention of the 1960s Buick V-6 being a cut-down Nailhead was in a magazine article I found some time back. That it was a design companion as a part of the "Nailhead Family" of engine proposals in the early 1950s. I'm not aware of any links to the later 215 V-8s, though.

The front timing cover for my '68 LeSabre 350 V-8 supercedes up to the same item on 1990s era (and later) Buick 3800 V-6s. I ran those part numbers as I was looking at options should the oil pump housing become too worn in future years. When it later number-changed to an 8-digit GM part number, THAT got my attention.

Welcome Russell - if you go to the "Me and My Buick" forum, there are a couple of '55 restorations in the works, interspersed with foolish comments provided by the likes of me.

Welcome Newbie - purchases are always so exciting. The '46 has a lot in common with '41-'42 Buicks as well. There are some knowledgeable folks here who should be able to help out with whatever you need.

We are tring to find out anything we could about the car Like what size moter it came with,What coler did it start out as We have allready found out that came with shylark fenders So now we are looking for the correct sportwagon fenders.An thanks we did start a new thread

I'm John and I have been checking out (and sometimes adding to) your Buick forums. As you can see, I am a MoPar kind of guy, but I have learned an awful lot from you folks. The knowledge here is well appreciated and some of it even pertains to my cars. Thanks for letting me in.

Welcome, Keisler31! Some interesting Dodges, there. Just remember that all car brands have their own quirks and idiosyncrasies, which MUST be respected AND understood as being a part of the brand's particular DNA and character. That's part of what made them unique and FUN.

Hi, I'm Dave and new to this forum. I live in NY and retired 4 months ago. I love all '49-'54 American cars but am partial to GM's. When I retired I bought a '52 Super convertible off of e-Bay that needs a complete restoration. The floor is completely shot but the car is pretty complete. It needs few parts, and I have already gotten some of what I need from e-Bay. I was wondering if anybody knows of a good restoration shop in lower NY? I basicly need them to do the floor and the interior. Thanks much!!

HI ,Greg in Maine, Shoe-string budget. Restoring 48 roadmaster 4 dr. I'm 54. My very first car was a 51 super. I fried the engine (over-heated to the max) on route 3 in massachusetts in 1975. I was trying to meet a girl in weymouth. That what you call sex-drive !

Well it has been a while since I have visited the forum and posted but I will be here more often as I just sold my 65 Riviera GS and purchased a 73 Riviera driver. I will need advice and sources for parts, especially the interior. Car was in California all its life and the heat and sun have dried out the plastic parts including the dash that is split.

I have been doing internet research and have run across 4-5 sites that specialize in Buick parts so I am make a list of what I need and will get busy locating the parts.

Right now it is a 20 footer but hope to improve on that. Any and all advice welcome. My 32 67S sits in the heated garage awaiting better weather to show up here in Texas.

Hey guys,heard about this forum from another buick forum group,came over to check it out and join.

My name is Paul,I'm from CT,and see that the BCA show will be in MA this year,which is not all that far for me,and will try strongly to attend.Have been into buicks since my first car in 1985,a 76 Skylark aquired from my aunt.Then it has taken off since then.

My current Buicks are 87 GN,70 Stage1 GS,69 Special 455 street/strip car,and my last one recently purchased 75 Regal survivor.

Which in tracking owner history of the Regal,the furthest most owner I have had contact with says he had bought it from the Buick Nats in Batavia NY in 2005,from the second owner.Did'nt know there was such a show that close.

After registering ,I just started surfing your site forum,and was in in the cars for sale section and noticed it goes back rather far.So,I kept going back as far as 2005,and what I found might actually be my car!!!!!

Sadly it looks like the member registered,placed the add and has not been on since.I don't know if this forum is like others I'm on when you send a personal message,you would get a message in your reg email notifying you of a message to go and check it.Does this forum do the same thing,as I did send him a PM,and hope he would get it,log back on and maybe get back to me.There is no direct email address in his profile.

And also,for those of you in the Buffalo,NY area,the story goes that this car is from Cali,and orig owner brought it to Buffalo.Where I can see the story getting accurate,as it was sold at the 2005 BCA show in Batavia.

It is a 75 Regal,light seafoam green,green int,350 4bbl,very clean,orig paint,survivor.Maybe someone here knows or even seen it there when it was for sale.

Anyway,nice to meet you all,and hope to enjoy this site like a few others I visit.Will try to upload a pic.....

Howdy, my name is Mark, I think I have owned my Buick for twenty five or more years, and am just now starting to look at her like something I can get to soon. She seems to have been born a super, in 1942, with 4 doors, and a inline 8. As much as I wish that I couls leave her alone and shine her up, It ain't gong to happen. When I was just a youngin' I saw a picture of Harley Earl's "Y Job" I couldn't think if much else. So here I am with a 42 super, a pic of a "Y Job" and a machine shop and a 1974 Cadillac fleetwood. So here is the plan, I am going to use the chassis from the Cadillac, 472 and all, and putting it under the Buick, the thing is I need a shop truck, so I will shorten the body a bit and will end up with an ElCamino type pickup with modernish rinning gear. Right wrong or indifferent, that is the plan.

Hello, I am in Minneapolis, I grew up in Buick family, dad was older had many cars, 54 62 70 78 01, and so on.

I drove and have a passion for Cadillac but as was early married, caddys cost too much for parts. BUICK was a suitable fix, and was same ride, nice big cars. I also loved when dad took me to the dealer and did see many odd cars buick made, and compacts that you dont see anymore.

1987 a 72 for 225.00 dollars, was a driver from OKlahoma, no rust and and dings. I then bought a 58 special post 2 door. baby blue , We put skirts, hunted many yards at time was no problem finding 58 parts. , later sold it, and aquired a 58 Limited, from FT Benning GA, was a staff car in US army. black NO a/c. I then later traded it for a 2 door Roadmaster 1958. Did alot of hunting again. skirts etc. I was low on cash and future cost on the car to restore was 30k or more. So it went to Ontario CA.

I had my 72, so in turn always looked for parts etc. and bought a car from Iowa, farm field car. Turns out to be one of 37 cars made by Buick for Park Av series in 75, as a proto type. Documented now. I am working on this . I time I had 3 park avenue cars I drove 75-76's, 2 I parted out, one sold. The Interior of the parted car went into my 72 as a custom, and has been in the Bugle. It was recovered in white leather, and dark blue carpet, in a 72 duce. Now with a 468 (455), modified motor, and large dual exhaust, sports a 441hp 557ft pds torq . yea 10.5 mpg too.

Dream hopes, I told a member in MONTANA , I was looking for an APOLLO, he called me 6 monthes later. He found a hatchback 73, with AC 350. I bought the car, with a montana title, NO notary was done, Minnesota cleaned the title. I was repainted over cracked lacquer. So recracked thru paint. I am going to strip totally. I have the slider sun roof here to put in, option rear defrost, amfm, ac and now 455. The car has 76 Skylark seats in new black upholstery, new carpets. I have a new head liner. ralley rims and dual exhaust. Car will have a tach on hood, gs scoops welded in, GSX saturn yellow paint and 74 gsx logos and stripes. with black out hood GS. I have the GSX tail on the back cut down 4.5inch to fit Apollo body, real nice. Has been in Apollo issue of BCA Bugle.

REAL dream come true. When out with my son at time about 10, we found a "roadhawk" skyhawk version done out of buick by co In MICH, for buick then sent them to the dealers on order for cars. The car sat on its belly, no wheels, no steering wheel, no alternator, etc. We scavanged the yard for H body rims and tires, and misc, Now I have both option alum and steel sport wheels, and hubcaps in garage. I have taken it one National meet this past year in IOWA. , again Pete Phillips posted pics of the car in the BCA BUGLE, thanks. The car needs stripping and repaint. Decals must be restored in off car first before stripping. I had only seen pic of the car , and dealer info when i was a kid. I paid 250.00 for the car, and have put lot into finding parts.

I am 20 year member in BCA local Gopher state. I have cars at this time that many bca members dont, and I like to be little different, but I do love 53-54 58 67 70 any other years.

Well I have been a lurking this site for a while, I should at least share a little info on my car. I have a 1950 buick special 4 door 41D. I bought it off ebay in 07 site unseen (my mail order bride). It was from new mexico and very solid. I have some rust on the rockers, some small holes in the floors, but that is about it. The interior is toast, side windows broke and the motor and trans had some issues.

So far I have rebuilt the trans, the motor, replaced the brakes and bought a new carb. My goal is to get the car mechanically repaired and drive it before I start on the body. I also have to replace the wiring harness(rhode island should help on that). The car needs ALOT of work but enjoy working on it.

My fear with a project like this(and I have seen other people do it) is to tear a car so far apart that it will never get back together, especially a car like a special that is not worth a lot of money when it is done. Anyway this will be cheaper than a $15,000.00 fishing boat. Okay the buick is still a boat, but the whole project is about the journey and not all about the end result.

This week end I am going to send my water pump off to Bob's for a rebuild and see if I can find a local guy to boil out my radiator.

The first photo with the car on the trailer was the one from e-bay. Hopefully I should get it on the road late this summer.

Welcome Joe. That's a cheap boat (knowing what I paid for my Lund...).

I think it is a good attitude that you have. One thing along those lines is that these were cars that people bought and drove. Convertibles may be valuable, but they are less practical...that is part of the reason fewer sold initially. It is great to see some of the less glorified cars getting restored. I wish you well and hope you have many happy years with your Special.

My name is Chris, I'm 19, and I love Buicks of all shapes and sizes. My first love was a 1990 Buick LeSabre Custom that I bought for a bargain beater, but after proving to be one of the most reliable vehicles in my family and then some, she had won a permenant place in my heart. Since then, I have owned a total of 6 LeSabres, (including one T-Type), and 1 Park Avenue. My next goal is a G-Body Regal/Grand National, but I would be happy with just about anything with the tri-shield badge.

Hello everybody!

My name is Chuck, 30 years old, I live in Norwich, Connecticut AKA casino coutry. I recently traded my 67 ford LTD/Galaxie for a 1950 Buick Super 4dr. Car runs and drives. Needs some body work, being a northeast car. I wish the snow here in CT would go away so I can start to get the body work underway. The car is currently under about 4 to 5 feet of snow in my driveway under the bare bones of a portable garage. Anyway, I love old automotive and I am looking forward to getting her on the road. Plan is to have her road ready in May so I can drive my little sister to her wedding! Wish me luck, please

Hi Chuck. Welcome aboard. Just wanted to take a moment to point out that even snow rated portable garages can collapse under heavy snow, but you probably already knew that.

Luckily enough it didn't collapse, yet it did start flying like a kite until I caught it. Regardless Here are a few pictures for your viewing pleasure. Again I can't wait to get back at it, I think this weekend I am going to start making new door panels and seat covers. We will see what happens from there....

i am looking for a 50 series straight 8 motor, the car is a 1931 model 54 Buick Sport Roadster, the motor has 220.7 cid and is on a 35" mount... I understand a 1932 and 1933 50 series will fit...I am also looking for {2 }12 spoke wooden 18" with 5 lugs
