Going to visit my daughter in Fort Smith, Arkansas sometime soon and was wondering if there are any old car museums near there. Also interested in other car stuff around there. Anybody got any ideas? Thanks in advance. John

Hi John,

Go east on I-40 to Morrillton, turn South and head to

The Museum
of Automobiles

Petit Jean Mountain - Morrilton, Arkansas

https://www.museumofautos.com/

THis museum is adjacent to Petit Jean State Park, and the drive up the mountain is exciting, as is the monument to Petit Jean (Little Jean) a young girl who posed as a Cabin Boy on a ship to follow the man she loved. She became ill and died after which time the crew discovered her secret identity and buried her. The mountain and state park are named in her honor. The mountain is also famed for the Santa Gertrudis cattle raised at the adjacent Rockefeller Farms and estate of the former Arkansas Governor.

Check out the old jailhouse and gallows of the infamous "hanging judge"! There's also a nice historic area with a lot of old Victorian homes,if I can remember right! I also think that there used to be an old soda fountain that was still open in town. It's been almost 30 years since I was there!

My soon to be son-in-law has been the restoration carpenter on those Victorian homes. Thanks for the information.

I´ve never been there....but I read that there is a museum that started out as a rock shop and has 10 or 12 cars, in Catoosa, OK, called the D.W. Corelle Museum. It apparently has ¨an eclectic collection¨(avon bottles, rock and gem specimens, old farm equipment remnants outside). It´s on old Route 66,  115 miles from Ft. Smith. #(918) 266-3612. I canoed through the area once and didn´t hear about it, but a 2015 Tulsa newspaper article said they exist. Might be worth calling when in the area........they have Dodges!

When I was there, we toured the old district and there was an old Victorian mansion house  up for sale that had been abandoned for years. It had a stone exterior and the roof had caved in, it was pretty well shot. Out of curiosity we inquired about the price and was told around 1 million at that time. Wow! Imagine what a decent one would sell for!

There´s also a Four States Auto Museum in Texarkana, AR, but it´s 182 miles away -- maybe a bit too far. I haven´t been there. Reports say you need to call ahead to arrange to see it, may only be open Sat. & Sun., has about a dozen cars on display w/ rotation from a bigger collection. I remember reading about there being a Crow-Elkhart there a long time ago...but pictures show more post-war vehicles.
