The 2 center main bearings I got don't have tangs to keep them from turning. Do I need to pin them or quit worrying?

It appears you have defective bearings. I would not install them. Without the retainers those bearings can rotate and if you try to notch them you could distort them or chip them and loose being able to take them back for exchange.

It is a 1946 Lincoln V12 block I was told and that the 56H has thicker cylinder walls than earlier ones. The crank is a .010 under 2.400 main crank from a 1939 Zephyr. The block has been bored .187" for 85HP ford pistons not that it matters for the bearings.
