While working on my 1917 D45, There are many grease applications that are identified by 1917 material standards.  So we are left with interpreting these to modern lubes.  In my search I found the attched chart that I found helpfull in making my  selections.

Cute list. 

 

I use the red grease or synthetic grease except for places like the torque ball and the steering gear.  In those two applications I use John Deere "corn head" grease.

 

Remember that any grease today is far superior to the regular grease in the day.

Grease in those days was a patent mixture of soap and Pennsylvania Crude. Don't even dream of trying to replicate it. Modern grease is 100000000000000 times better.
