rageracing
Had a local shop build me a new driveshaft for my 34 PE. Is it alright to just use grade 8 bolts to attach it to the rear or should I look for something with a shoulder on it? Do not remember what the fasteners were when I took the original one off 3 years ago. Thanks
jpage
I think they used a regular capscrew, lockwasher and nut to fasten it to the rear flange and they were only grade 2 at the time but grade 8 won't hurt anything.

Spinneyhill
For best fit you are probably best to use a bolt with the shaft unthreaded through the flanges and the thread starting just where the washer would go. The threaded part is slightly smaller in diameter than the unthreaded part. For best balance you want the holes in the mating flanges to match up perfectly. If they are slightly misaligned, as you would get with a slightly smaller bolt, perhaps even a threaded bolt, there will be a vibration.
