auburnseeker Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 Well it was an attempt but the model has better curves. 1
1937hd45 Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 Who in the world sees anything "Bugatti-ish" in that pile?
auburnseeker Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 The long sloping Chevy 1/2 ton truck fenders have a Bugatti look when you hang them that far from the body on tubing. Well you might have to squint and use your imagination to see it.
Xander Wildeisen Posted January 8, 2018 Author Posted January 8, 2018 I thought the tubing holding the fenders on gave it a slight Voisin look.
C Carl Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 Now , personally , I think THAT is one cool Rat ! For a Rat. I really do think Rats are a good way to dispose of unwanted junk. Power and suspend it as you like. Huh ! : "X" talking Voisin reminded me of when The Mullin (I guess the largest repository of Voisin in the world) , had a serious Bug infestation back December '13 , IIRC. Lemmee see if I can scratch a few up to compare with subject vermin. - CC
Xander Wildeisen Posted January 9, 2018 Author Posted January 9, 2018 As auburnseeker stated, squinting a person can see a touch of Rollston coach work from the side view, with the axle being set back to the rear of the body.
Laughing Coyote Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 Car? What car? Anyone else see a car? 1
SC38dls Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 There are a lot of cars out there I would spend 25 grand on before I would even consider that crap sorry car.
padgett Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 (edited) Looks like the chassis needs about 4" more for the wheelbase to fit the body. "Bad Mother" -well the initials fit. Edited January 9, 2018 by padgett (see edit history)
28 Chrysler Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 ISH would be the only necessary part of the thread title. If any of you are desperate and want me to take photos and send them to you I suppose I could but I absolutely will not do a test drive.
zipdang Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 Has anyone ever seen a rat rod that looked comfortable for the driver? Not my thing at all, but far be it for me to look down on anyone's creativity.
billorn Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 I have found that people who say something looks like a Bugatti/Duesenberg/Packard dont really know what those things really look like. 2
JV Puleo Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 (edited) It's not a car... it's a cartoon Edited January 9, 2018 by JV Puleo (see edit history)
Joe in Canada Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 (edited) An insult to rat rods. I fully understand why the owner wants to get rid of it. Edited January 9, 2018 by Joe in Canada (see edit history) 1
Gunsmoke Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 Whoa guys, what about your New Year Resolutions about being tolerant!! This is only 1 week in! As "Rat Rods" go (and I'm generally not a fan of them), I think it is a pretty good effort. Unlike most which look like Johnnie Cash cars, this one actually has decent proportions like an early 30's long wheel base coupe, and looks like all panels/fenders come from same maker. I like the wire wheels. A lot of dough, but an eye-catcher.
Xander Wildeisen Posted January 9, 2018 Author Posted January 9, 2018 Bugatti-ish/Duesenberg-ish/Packard-ish
JACK M Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 I think that all these nay-sayers are some kind of jealous. My rat rod made a magazine article one time about how not to build. I asked the author what he drove. PRIUS HAHAHAHA. He never had any sort of collectable or special car in his life except his Prius. What is it they say? Those who cant do teach? I don't think a guy on this forum should type anything he wouldn't say to someone's face. So, go back to the ad and look that guy up, make your comments then post the conversation.
SC38dls Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 (edited) Jack --"THOSE WHO CAN'T TEACH" are you for real? That is probably the dumbest statement anyone can say. I am not nor ever have been a teacher. I did own the second largest computer service bureau in the Chicago Metro area for over 40 years. I credit those that taught me for my success along with a number of coaches and my own hard work. Some of the most talented, smart people I have ever known have been teachers. They are special people to stay in a profession that has to put what with all kinds of people. They do it for low pay, and sometimes disrespect from alot of the people they teach. I expresed an opinion that I would buy a lot of other cars before I would by that crap. I would say that directly to the owner with no hesitation. I will say to you - I feel you are flat out wrong regarding the statement you made about those that teach.. Have Fun Dave S Edited January 9, 2018 by SC38DLS (see edit history)
60FlatTop Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 (edited) I have always noticed how much the rat rod owners look alike. Standing there in just socks makes me think of numbness in all five extremities. Bugatti... Just an old man thought. Bernie Edited January 10, 2018 by 60FlatTop (see edit history)
C Carl Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 Rat didn't sell off the 'bay. If you have nothing better to do , look up Rat City Rukkus. Got a Rukkus coming up March 31. Might sell there. I still think it is kind of cool. Just a playful thing to do with scrap metal. I doubt any cars were sacrificed. That wouldn't go down well around here. It is , in the end , just a Rat. The guy who built it knows how to do things that I couldn't do , so I respect him. I enjoy talking to the builders of Rats about their unique creations. As I say , it's all about having fun with metal and gasoline ! I think I will leave this topic , and focus on AACA matters. - Carl

( I didn't say it, I did ask what is it that "they" say) ( yea, I know, who is "they"? apparently not you). I guess its in the read.
60FlatTop Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 Just a personal observation but "Those who can't teach hire teachers." Yes, I taught..... the advanced class. And when I jumped up and down on the table begging to teach the basic class the board told me they could get basic teachers a dime a dozen. Bernie
SC38dls Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 Jack I apologize if I misread your post. I just am a firm believer our teachers deserve better. Now back to the original post ..... Davs S 1
auburnseeker Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 I got a notice the car or the model were relisted cheaper over on eBay.
mike6024 Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 It is $24k or make offer, https://www.ebay.com/itm/1929-Ford-Other/292402151717?
Xander Wildeisen Posted January 11, 2018 Author Posted January 11, 2018 Some may think I am crazy, you can see some classic styling in the car. I think the custom car world always leans in the direction of the classic era. Lots of high end customs pull in styling Q's from upper end classics. We just need to see if we can get 28 Chrysler to do a test drive.
mike6024 Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 A modest bribe $$$ may just get us a videotaped test drive. I'd especially like to know how comfortable those seats are, especially going over bumps. 1
Curti Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 I looked at the eBay listing .The classic styling is dressed in black. 1

SC38dls Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 Styling aside, classic black dressing aside, appearance of some classic curves it’s a rat rod. There is no way I (personal opinion only) would pay anywhere near 24 or 25,000 dollars for it. I love original prewar cars, I like late 40’s thru 60’s cars. I like hot rods done in a traditional style. I just don’t get throwing a bunch of parts on a car that are just laying around the garage to make it look different. Forgetting time to create the fenders what could the actual value of that build? What is special about it besides the front fenders? I just don’t see it, again only a personal opinion but I’m willing to be educated why I’m wrong. Dave S
60FlatTop Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 Since the beginning of the Rat Rod appearances I have found from talking to owners and personal observations that these cars are meant to offend owners of traditional restored cars or "shiny" cars. Some people just don't see the value of the intended offensiveness. Owners imitate singers from metal bands when they talk about their creation and the people they imagine dislike them. Owning a rat rod does appear to increase the mind reading capabilities of the owners, frequently they spout "He thinks", "They think", and other extra sensory revelations. Some have lost the physical capability to ride motorcycles, but I have heard many of those talk about the raspy exhaust on their bike that annoyed everyone within miles of their path. When my kids acted like that my Wife called it AGM. If I was younger and less experienced I might spend the 25K just to gain the mind reading ability for board meetings. Of course I would have to wear shoes at least when I was standing at work. Dave, you gotta cozy up a little more. They will help you understand. Bernie
SC38dls Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 Bernie I’ve never been accused of “cozying up” to anyone in my life. I honestly don’t think it is going to happen at this stage of life. Have fun Dave S
Xander Wildeisen Posted January 11, 2018 Author Posted January 11, 2018 That is pretty wild Bernie, I never gave much thought to rat rodders slowly putting down the rest of the car scene with their builds. And at the same time all engaging in a mind control operation. Who are these rat rodders? What do they really want? Are we all in danger? Crazy, so much to deal with every day. And now this!

I am really surprised the "In your face" attitude hasn't been noticed. It is quite common in most counter culture groups. Oh well.
maok Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 IMHO, if the guards (fenders), front and back, were curved/smoothed to meet up with the running boards it would add to its styling. If I had a lazy $24k for something fun then this would be perfect. The seats need more padding....:)
Xander Wildeisen Posted January 11, 2018 Author Posted January 11, 2018 3 hours ago, 60FlatTop said: Please reread. I did reread it. How did you know that? Maybe just talking to the rat rodders has allowed some of their mind reading abilities to cross over to you. This is getting very strange. I hope my Hudson convertible is not a rat rod. I do not want to know what some of the people around here are thinking.
