dpeeler
Looking for a solid gas tank for an 1104 (Super Eight) Packard. I'm told that a gas tank for any body style will be the same as long as it's for an 1104 with a 142" wheel base. Thanks, David
Owen_Dyneto
David, what you've been told is not quite accurate, all the 1934 Eights and Super Eights regardless of wheelbase used the same gas tank.
dpeeler
That's great - it opens up the possibilities of finding a tank. Thank you! Do you know of anyone reproducing the metal "accordion" connection between the tank and the filler neck?
Owen_Dyneto
If you've still got the brass accordion on your tank filler, you're probably one of the very last to do so, most everyone else having replaced it with a section of gasoline-compatible rubber hose; to my knowledge no one has reproduced the brass bellows. I tried fixing mine several times by annealing it to relieve the "work-hardening" and soldering the leaks but after 2 or 3 attempts I went to gasoline delivery rubber hose. dpeeler
I've been down the road trying to repair as well and still can't fill the tank more than half full before it starts leaking. I was hoping to retain the originality, but it looks like I'll join the rubber hose route. Thanks!
HH56
Any chance one of the modern plumbing pipe expansion or flexible joints could be modified or adapted? http://www.flexicraft.com/Metal_Expansion_Joints
Owen_Dyneto
HH56, here's a pix of the part, soldered on both ends, one to a flange on the side of the tank and the other to the filler neck within the left-side tail light. Note the evidence of many previous repairs. Edited January 3, 2018 by Owen_Dyneto (see edit history)
