So I am working on getting the 6-way power punch fully functional in a 67 Riviera. When hitting the controls it clicks showing there is power, yet perhaps locked up.

Darwin clued me in that very often it is the transmission with the gears in it that often gets locked up because of older grease.

So, took out the transmission, opened it up and, cleaned it then sprayed with some lithium grease. It did not look to bad actually and so didn't look like the problem. Next checked the motor and the wiring. Everything was functional with direct electrical, yet it seemed the relay was shot. Also I noticed that the rack that the lines are plugged into might be frozen up. Anyway, I see OPGI has a relay for say, but its $72.99 on sale!...which seems a little pricey.

Please let me know if anyone has suggestions or where to go for a better deal perhaps.

Thanks for any tips!

I know simple but make sure the drive belt is not slipping?

Do you have movement in any direction?

Eklers Chevy has the relay for less. https://www.lategreatchevy.com/full-size-chevy-relay-power-seat-1960-1976.html. Even at $52 you don't want to buy a relay unless you know 100% its bad.  The body manual has a good wiring diagram to help troubleshoot it down.  This pic is from the 66 Body manual but might be same. Edit: Found same diagram on page 120-120 in 67 shop manual

Does the relay click when the switch is activated? These relays can be carefully taken apart for inspection and contact cleaning.

Did you disassemble the solenoids in transmission completely like this? The solenoid plunger shafts is what gets gummed up.

As Jason points out, the "dog" which acts as a clutch and reacts to the magnetism created by electric current must be free to move on the shaft to engage the gears.

Also, I agree with disassembling the relay to be sure the contact points are clean and not burned or corroded.

The overall mechanism can be locked up at one of many points or just compromised at all points. Check the cables, the gear/rack mechanisms, etc..to be sure everything is "free".

Ok, thanks a bunch Jason and Tom. Yeah totally took the transmission apart and its spines freely as does the cables when given direct power (only when bypassing the relay). The bench has zero movement when all back together and after plugging the cables back in and giving direct power, no movement. Just clicking.

I will pull out the relay and check it.

Gabriel, have you looked at the track mechanism? When I did my '65 (similar setup) that is where I found really hard old lubricant. Took it all apart, cleaned and re-lubed and it's been working fine since. Best of luck.
