And not until the stain was on did it all come together and take its rightful place within the artwork’s frame.

I admit, mixing and testing different stains on all the different wood colors was a challenge and not one that could be hurried. But the final product with the two coats of polyurethane I think made it all worthwhile.

These finishing touches are a long time coming but they were all built at least twice.

You got it. Vision and passion, tha’s what it’s all about. Now if I could just put it all to words as poetically as you….

Looks great!  Back trouble is the worst; hopefully you're on the mend now.  ;)

Thanks. I feel blessed that I’ve never had back problems until now. I’m just learning to adjust and live with it, shorter work days, more rest breaks. I’m good 🙂

Your wood working talent is superb.  You could have been either a finish carpenter or a cabinet maker.  Great work!

Thanks for the nice words but I am quite short of being a finish carpenter and definitely don’t possess the skills of a cabinet maker. But thanks for your appreciation of the woodworking skills I do possess.

Thanks. Art Deco and the closest thing I could find to the Greek key floor stenciling.

I'd say they're a very good match.

@dship In the last picture if you look closely, you can see why I say I'm no finish carpenter or cabinet maker. Either of those would have filled the nail holes before staining, not me. I just keep reminding myself, "It's a pole barn".

Any finish carpenter would have done on purpose what you've done to make the interior look like an "authentic pole barn".  My paternal grandpa was a master carpenter later in life, and he would have done the same to get that "pole barn" look.  You're in good company.

and your paternal grandpa and the likes of him are exactly whom I would never slight by allowing myself to be called a finish or cabinet carpenter. 🙂 Nor am I a mechanic, nor a painter etc. I will allow myself to be called a self made engineer though, as I know a few engineers I wouldn't hesitate to go up against in the field any day.  😄

I had the high privilege of paying a brief visit to Buick Gardens this past Sunday and can tell you that the real thing is a lot better than the pics! Marvelous work! What Lamar has done is architectural art!

Cheers, Dave

The privilege was all mine sir. So enjoyed your visit albeit was too short. Thanks for appreciating my work.

I broke the seal on the JWG cold medicine you brought and felt better immediately. Thanks again for that, what a treat. 😁

welcome back anytime!

(for those who miss the light and focus on the model car, I moved it.)

You might want to secure the light to the ceiling a little better, also 🙄

Thanks guys, I'm good to go. Just had some decompressive lumbar laminectomy that didn't go as well as the doctors said it would and taking longer to get over, again not as the doctors said.  I think the big takeaway from it all is I just need to act more my actual age rather than my shoe size. But again thanks for the sincere well wishes and prayers.

So scrolling back through my cell phone, here's a few shots to try and catch up.

I'd been putting a few of my favorite boards aside for door and window trim and loved finally seeing them up. As well as the old bullseye corner blocks. Cut some plinth blocks from some of the 2x6 heart pine, beveled the top some and ran some grooves through them to mimic the beadboard wall boards.

Was happy with how the stain brought out the knots and grain of the old pine.

Always with the attention to detail!  Can't wait to see the final product.

Are the grey/blue streaks remnants of old paint or is that the wood?  Looks terrific!  ;)

Old buttermilk paint from turn of the century. Much fun was had scraping the very top coat completely then the next 1-2 to expose just the right amount of wood grain 😊

I know about back problems. I have had it for years. It gets worse as you get older.

It's the reason I'm selling my 1930 Ford Model A Sedan Delivery.

The quirkiness of down shifting a Model A is tough on the back.  Shifting, Double clutching, and stepping on the accelerator to bring up RPM's all at the same time does a number on the back. Not to mention the tight quarters of the front seat.

Lamar you Buick Gardens look great.

UPDATE

My 1930 Ford Model A Deluxe Sedan Delivery was sold today.

Going to a new home in Dallas, Texas.

I hope to replace it with another Buick.

I'm a Buick guy and I've learned to stay with what I know and that's Buick.

Some may recall I had built the front windows so they would swing down open from the top. While they were very functional and cool looking like that I decided to fix them in place instead. Reason being the office is air conditioned and also because the sun sets across from the front of the building, flooding the office with bright hot sunlight over half the day. I will need to add window shades.
After changing them I went ahead and cleaned and painted the inside and cleaned the outside.

Rita suggested and I agreed that a dark gray would give a somewhat metal/utility look to the window sashes. Excuse the poor lighting pictures.

and back in the shop area, got light, plenty of light. 300w equiv LEDs in the main work area next to the work benches and 200 W equiv in the car storage area balancing the light out with the wall sconces.
