Guest Jenna Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 Fantastic condition. I do think it was ever used. Appears a bit greener in person.
Marty Roth Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Nice- might look good in our Packard- Are you selling this or showing it? What is the material? Size? Price? Location? What makes it a Packard robe?
Terry Bond Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 What is it that makes a Packard lap robe? I've got several different lap robes in my collection and have only ever seen a couple of them with a car makers name or logo embroidered on them. They were all aftermarket. You could get them personalized any way you wanted.
edinmass Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 (edited) I spoke to Jen, the robe was in a box marked Packard, although this robe is not a Packard robe its a high end piece. No label and color hurt the value, its very good condition helps the value. She has decided to keep it, so its no longer being offered for sale. Factory label lap robes bring three and four times the price of non marked robes. Strook motor robes are the most common generic marked aftermarket robes. They have more value than an unmarked robe. Initials can help or hurt the value depending on the style, location, and presentation. In my collection I have over twenty factory marked robes, along with FDR'S lap robe, and the Sha of Iran"s Brunn lap robe. Interest in robes seems to be decreasing, and prices tend to be soft, unless the item is over the top. I know the manufacturer of Jen"s robe, and informed her of the name. I will keep it close to my vest for assorted reasons. I can usually date a factory robe plus or minus one or two years from tags and construction. If anyone has a robe they need help on feel free to PM me, and I will help if I can. My best, Ed I forgot to mention.........several people made fake and reproduction robes about ten years ago........so be careful, you may get bit and buy a fake. I have a lap robe very similar that was handed down to me by my Grandfather. It must be close to 90~100 years old. Does anyone know what the value might be of such a lap robe in top condition?
Brian Benus Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 I have a lap robe very similar to the attached picture. It was handed down to my from my mother who got it from her father. I believe it is about 80~90 years old and is in excellent condition. Does anyone know what it might be worth to a collector and where it could be sold? Perhaps it should be donated to a car museum? Any information would be appreciated. Thank you!
edinmass Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 Post a photo, and I can value it. The more photos, size, and condition descriptions, and I can give you an exact price.
Brian Benus Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 Dear edinmass, Thank you... Can you give me an estimate / range? it is like a few hundred dollars or perhaps more? It's the same wool grey color on one side with the shiny piling on the other side. It is also monogrammed with my grandfather's initials. Thank you,
edinmass Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 (edited) I need photos, value is from 75 dollars to 1500, and on rare occasions more. That said.......I need to see it to determine year, manufacturer, and determine if it’s automotive or equine related. Impossible to determine without photos, and if it has a tag on it indicating an automobile company, that will usually double the value. The lap robe above is not wool, it’s alpaca, and with a four seam border, I can ID the manufacturer, year, and with the style of letters.........I can even guess as to what car it was made for. Brian Benus Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 Dear edinmass, Thank you... Attached please find several pictures. The size is 49" by 68" .... I do not believe that this lap rob was every used.... It has no visible damage at all - no moth holes, no stains, etc. Unfortunately, there does not appear to be any manufacturer markings visible. The initials are my maternal grandfather's (JMG.) Any information you can provide would be helpful, rough estimate of age, manufacturer, and if it was for a Packard or perhaps a Cadillac or Lincoln. Thank you,
