As I am slowly piecing together parts as funds allow, and before I try and call Dave, I am looking for a transmission for my '37 century coupe , or at least an interchangeable one, to go behind my 320 straight 8 with the torque tube, factory rear.  Located in the Boston area, but willing to travel although i am on a bit of a budget. Any leads would be appreciated, thank you!

Some good information in there, especially on the parts list interchangeability sheet as it sounds I can widen my search by a little atleast, although with reading it, it sounds like he may have already torn into it to part it out to help out his Australian friend?

Are you needing the whole trans or just some pieces? I have a whole 1940 series 60 trans in parts.

Unfortunately, I am in need of a whole transmission. my 320 stops at the flywheel and picks back up at the torque tube retainer, although I think I know of an appropriate bellhousing, and I believe Bob's sells new clutch discs and pressure plates.

Is your 1940 trans in parts, something that would be for sale?

It`s been stated on the forum before that a Jeep Cherokee Pressure plate will work on Buicks `37-`53. Don`t know if for the 248, the 320 or both. Maybe someone will comment.

Did you find a trans yet? I’ve got a good used one out of a ‘37.  Also have clutch, flywheel, clutch linkage, intake/exhaust manifold, & carburetor. Please call if interested.

PhillipGuyette,

Welcome to the AACA Discussion Forum. You might want to double check yours to be sure which series it came out of, from the photo in your other post, I think yours is out of a Special. If so, it will not work in a Century.

The Jeep mid 90s Grand Cherokee 6cyl clutch is for the small series engines only. 320s use a "Long" style clutch ala mid 70s full size Ford. Look up the Clutch Doctor in North Branch, Mn. Trevor is the Clutch Dr. He has the info.

Thank you for taking the time to check up on it, but I have since sourced the correct transmission for the 320 in my Century, although I am still looking for 2 of the replacement gears, ( albeit casually looking as I have a full plate of metal and body work to do) as well as I need to find the parts for the clutch and fork.

I had heard of the grand Cherokee clutch for the smaller straight 8's, but I had not heard of people using a 70s ford clutch. I 'll have to reach out to him when I get closer to that stage, thanks!
