This is the first time my trusty 1995 Gates catalog #31-2050, (cars & light trucks 1911-80) has failed me.  For Moon it shows only 1926-28 Model 60, 6-cyl, as Gates #607.  Don't know if that's the same engine.

Those numbers have been superseded but will cross.

My 1934 Motor Specialties Ltd catalogue shows the 6-50 (1923-26) taking a no. 211 V belt. The 6-40 1922-26 takes a #219 V belt. The R-20, 6-48 & 58 1920-25 take a #225 belt. So, first observation, they are different.

Second, I don't have any cross reference to these numbers.

Third, the Buick Master 6 late 1925-27 used the #225, as did the Velie 48 1920-21! The Durant 60 1929 used the #211.

So it looks like you need the OC and IC of the belt and its width (plus the angle) and go for it by size! Is 42" the ID or OD? They will differ by about 2" or so.

Ah, a *flat* belt such as on my 1922 Paige 6-66!  Craig, if the dimensions for the 1922-23 Paige 6-66 are the same as for the 1923 Moon, I know that the 1995-vintage Gates number is 522, but I may have grabbed the last one in captivity ten years ago.  Tractor Supply may be able to furnish a flat belt from the specs.

You all are good.  The Model is a 6/40 and the belt is flat.  To measure it I used my wifes sewing ruler which is a fabric ruler.  Now I will use all the information and see what I can find.  I will give tractor supply a d see what they have.

Thanks again.

UPDATE & CORRECTION:  I went out to the garage and dug out the cardboard sleeve for my Paige fan belt.  The number is actually 822, not 522, and the dimensions marked on the sleeve are 1" x 36", so that won't work.  My apologies for the bad info.

An unlikely measuring tool I've found handy in the shop is a paper measuring tape from a notions/sewing supplies store.  (But buy at least two, because they break/tear easily.)  You might try paper tape on the entire range of adjustment of the belt to determine minimum and maximum lengths, allowing for stretch of course.

Just to muddy things a little---1938 little Gates lists Moon 6-40 (Newport in size section) 23-26 as Gates then #833 flat 1x40 (1x401/4 in  a later catalog)

38 catalog lists 15 makes using---sorry, no Buick---including Dodge  (C) 4cyl 1927, Dodge (P) 124 4cyl 27-28, Durant (P) 60, 63, 65, 66  29-30, sorry, no Velie...I'm sure the "C" and "P" mean Comm'l or passenger...
