65 dashpot

Greetings !  my 65 didn't have a dashpot when I bought it around 25 yrs ago and seems to have gotten by fine without one. The bracket is there, so there's that. Does everyone else have one? Can anyone tell me why I should install one? I don't have my shop manual in front of me but I don't remember seeing it mentioned.    Any advice ?       Drew

If you don't let your throttle free release after slamming the gas you should be fine. Or you "modernized" your carb to where you don't need a dash pot.

 

They prevented engine stalls when the throttle slammed shut to rapidly. A small bit of fuel air mix got trapped in the carb.

 

I'm sure there's a more detailed explanation out there.

 

Keep your bracket for originality. I'm sure a dash pot wouldn't ill affect your set up.

Those are pretty universal. There are some model specific on eBay right now for around $15 including a bracket, or you can probably find one at your local jobber.

                The bellows in the picture is orange, and that is the way they came from the factory.

Love it. I didn't know they were orange.

 

 

Mine is black. Does anyone sell 'em?

                  If yours is black that is probably correct for your car. The 65's were orange, but yours is a 66 correct?

True to be black for my '67.

Its in good shape. I'd like an orange for on standby if they are available because the blacks surely are not.

Well, you've seen my other car, what did you expect? This one doesn't seem to have a dashpot either. It runs ok too

By the way, the term "dash pot" had an entirely different meaning for me back in the day. Just saying...
