Loren@65GS.com Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 (edited) A couple of questions. What is correct color of the inside of the glove box ? I have seen replacement in both gray and black. Also is it a flocked or plain finish ? Pictures would be great. Thanks, Loren Edited November 8, 2017 by Loren@65GS.com spelling (see edit history)
telriv Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 On most ALL of the '63's & '64's I've seen are gray flocked. 65's I have seen both gray & black. The black I don't know if it was plain or flocked. The '66 Wildcat I had was black & flocked.
RivNut Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 I don't think you'd lose points for either color or material. Just don't open your glove box at the show.
Loren@65GS.com Posted November 8, 2017 Author Posted November 8, 2017 We're not really interested in points. Roxy most likely will never have the car judged. I on the other hand hope to keep it as close to correct as I can . There are others, like myself, that have such limited knowledge of the first generation Riviera , I wish not to present something totally incorrect and muddy the waters. I know '65 Skylarks and the Skylark GS well enough that I can be confident in my knowledge of them, but still learn some details. Thanks for the insight Tom. I now have a better understanding of which one to go with. The one that was in place was not tall or wide enough to be the one that was suppose to be there. I also found a round plastic glove box light lens in amongst the many loose parts . Thanks, Loren
Seafoam65 Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 The original glove box in my 65 was black flocked with a hold down clip riveted to the bottom of it for securing papers to the bottom of the box. The flocking on it was messed up so I bought a black flocked reproduction that did not come with the clip so I drilled out the rivet and riveted the clip to the new box in the same place.
Pat Curran Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 Just as an FYI, originally the top of the liner was not supported by any fastener and they began to sag in the middle. Buick issued a narrow metal sleeve about the same width as a door edge guard that fit over the top edge to help prevent it from sagging. It worked really well. You will see some first gens with this sleeve and others without. Either one is correct. I remember years ago when first gens were available at your local junk yard and I collected several of these sleeves when I found them. I don't have any left though.

I appreciate all the good information here, thanks Pat. Is this the piece you are referring to ? Loren
Pat Curran Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 It certainly is! The holes were pre-drilled from the factory but in every case where I have seen these in a car, none ever had screws in the holes. This thing fit snug and you really didn't need screws to hold it in place.
Loren@65GS.com Posted November 9, 2017 Author Posted November 9, 2017 Thank you very much Pat ! Now I know what to look for. Loren

I’ll send a pic later today. Red Riviera Bob

Loren@65GS.com Posted November 11, 2017 Author Posted November 11, 2017 Thank you Red Riviera Bob. Pictures sure help to show how it fits in place. I also have the same glove box lens. Mine was laying in the console box with some other small parts. Many thanks again, Loren

Loren@65GS.com Posted November 13, 2017 Author Posted November 13, 2017 (edited) RivNut, Thanks for the post. Found it earlier, almost forgot to watch the time. Got it ! Thanks again to everyone for the help and RivNut for the wake up . Loren Edited November 13, 2017 by Loren@65GS.com (see edit history)
jframe Posted November 13, 2017 Posted November 13, 2017 I have this reinforcement on mine; it is slid onto the top of the glovebox liner, and nothing else. Doesn't really do a great job of keeping it from sagging, though. Wondering if someone installed it incorrectly?
Loren@65GS.com Posted November 18, 2017 Author Posted November 18, 2017 Got the piece yesterday, looks great. It still has the Buick part label on it. Thanks to Mr. Curran for confirming the identity for me, Red Riviera Bob for the great pictures that will come in very handy and also RivNut for the post that reminded me to make sure I got my bid in on time. I've still got a long , long way to go with this Riviera for Roxy. Loren
