My Mom again. They were married in 1939 and soon drove from Chicago to San Francisco where I was born. They would have driven this car.

Its a 1939 Plymouth, so it would have been a brand new car at the time.

 

I am not as familiar enough with  the details of the '39 model to tell if it was the Road King or higher trim DeLuxe model. Based on the chrome around the windshield and accessory bumper override in the center of the front bumper, I'd lean toward the DeLuxe.

The photograph looks like it was taken by someone pretty skilled. Good composition, focus, lighting, exposure, etc. And I don't see much film grain so I expect the negative was fairly large format, not just a Brownie Camera. Was your father the one who took the picture?
