I’ve git a 39 Pontiac business coupe and the original cylinder head is cracked I have a couple 239(`41engine)heads not sure of the difference from the 222cu in engine. Head gasket shows to fit 208, 223, and 239 engines, maybe the heads will interchange.. Tom 1
Bloo Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 Yes, the head gasket is the same. I'll bet it would fit. Compression might be different. 1964carlito: What tipped you off it was cracked? Was it a crack on the outside you could see or something else?
1964carlito Posted November 3, 2017 Author Posted November 3, 2017 I was losing coolant and after a close look I could see a hairline crack that was opening up at operating temp. Crack would disappear after cool down. I’ve got it temp repaired with JB Weld. It’s holding on short trips however I realize I’ll need to have the head replaced. 1
