Actually Pintos (while certainly not perfect) did not handle poorly at all for that era. They were, and occasionally still are, raced with some success in SCCA and vintage racing events.

If the body motion is severe enough relative to the chassis (wheels) that the car feels like it's "rolling", you may have something very severe wrong, like broken body mounts or suspension mounts.

Does the car correct itself on braking or acceleration? Are there any associated noises? More details would certainly help.
