Buick 55
hello, i'm new on the forum. My name is Pascal, I'm French. last week, i came back from a us cars meeting and suddenly, i had a lot of smoke behind the dashboard of my 55 Buick Special. I stopped the car as fast as possible ans stopped the engine. i don't know what is the problem. I started to open the dash board to see and check... some wires are burnt ! ... what do you think ? any idea of what happened ?
oldford
Just a guess here, but it looks like the insulation on some of the wires is cracked with exposed conductors. The third photo shows a fuse holder with a burn mark on the dash. Most likely the short occurred there and took out other stuff. One photo has a blown 20 amp fuse... You'll need to strip the makeshift harness and start over. Be sure to clean all of the corroded contacts, also... Frank
Bhigdog
Blown 20A fuse feeds the interior lights. Good a place to start as any. ............................Bob
