Can someone decipher engine number 4786676 S  for me ?

If the last digit is a 5 rather than an S, it would fall into the 1946-1947 number range.

Special or Super or Roadmaster ?

The ending digit 5 indicates Super, which in '46/'47 was a 248 ci engine.

No picture Ben.   It's advertised  locally...about 50 miles from me.    I thought it might be a 263 but it looks like it isn't.

Jack, the easiest way to tell a 263 is that looking at the drivers side of the block, the exterior of the cylinders have a vertical rib..
