Guest Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 Upon disassembly of my Carter D6G1 I found the U shaped float retainer was disintegrated. Anybody know where I can locate one? Thanks again, Greg
Guest Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 Dang. I purchased a carb kit prior to tearing down my carb. It does not include the spring clip. I contacted carbking, they offer the spring clip but only if I buy another complete kit. They won't sell it separately.
keiser31 Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 Do you have a photo of the old one or part of it? I may have something lying around here.
Guest Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 I do. Thanks for the offer keiser. The clip came out just as you see it. Broken into 3 pieces. The kit I bought on line has the usual gaskets, check ball, needle & seat, Accelerator pump and various clips. I paid $25, which seems fair for the small amount of parts involved. The company that includes the spring clip wants $76 for their kit. I'm certain I cannot return the kit I already purchased without much grief involved, so my dilemma is that I would have to justify another $76 just to get the spring clip. Cost of carb kit alone would be over $100 that way.
Bloo Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 Does this clip just bump against the float pivot pin with its ends, and touch the top plate to stay in place? If so the carter BBD has something like that. Got any BBDs in your junkbox?
Guest Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 Bloo, that is correct. That's exactly how it fits, thanks.
keiser31 Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 Unfortunately, it looks like I got rid of the carbs I had. Sorry about that.

JFranklin Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 Tin can, snips, and chisel. Might be an interesting project.
Guest Posted September 15, 2017 Posted September 15, 2017 (edited) Problem solved Tin can, snips and.....wait, I've heard this somewhere before Anyway, it ain't rocket science. Made the piece, fit perfectly, Bingo! Much better than trying to justify another $76 for another whole kit, just for this little pin.
