I am actually thinking of replacing my perfect SONY Headunit ( with bluetooth and tunetray) with a Double DIN Unit that supports Car Play for iphones....

Anyone ever tried to fit a Double DIN into his TC?  I am sure it is possible -  modifying the "faceplate"

I don't believe I've ever seen a photo of that modification in a TC. I would imagine you could modify the plastic radio bracket but then you would also have to modify the leather faced trim around the radio/cubby hole as well as the woodgrain or black radio/ac surround trimplate.

mounting the Radio is not a problem, correct...at first, I thought of a 3D printing service but the scan alone runs at aprx. $500! which is insane...then the modified reproduction would be another $500 to 800....no f$%#^ way...whats left? create a silicone molding and cast it myself ! I will look into this option and report back...

just a thought. Have you looked into getting another face plate? I think that is what I would look into doing so I could keep my original one intact.

If the head unit has a face plate would it be possible to take a Drimal and cut out what was needed around the opening so the head unit will slide into place.

If it is a flush mount (no face plate). As the old carpenter said "measure twice cut once." Then could you pull the head unit out flush with the front of the bezel so the cut edge does not show.

If all else fails pull out the duct tape and black spray paint. :)

Sorry I am just getting to this.  I had an aftermarket 2013 Alpine radio from another car which the stereo shop just put in my TC.  They said it is actually slightly bigger than a double DIN.  Has full GPS (antenna is under the crash pad), Bluetooth stereo and phone (microphone near instruments), and Sirius XM (antenna is near the defroster outlet).  Also has a back-up camera. Since I have a black interior, they just removed the faux wood panel, and fabricated a black one.  Radio mounted right in,  and HVAC controls were not disturbed.

It took some time to work up the ambition to go out into the freezing garage, and then I could not get the pix to attach here, so I sent them via email.

Finally got the pix to upload.  No picture of the GPS antenna because it is beneath the IP cover (and works fine).  They were able to mount the rear vision camera on the deck lid without drilling any holes in the car.

I agree.  They did a great job.  They were "younger" guys who had never seen or heard of a TC, and they were quite "honored" to work on it.  Not cheap, but looks good and works perfectly, so I guess it was worth the money.
