Guest Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 You would probably get better? and quicker answers further down on the Chrysler part of the forum. Might be caused by overdrive if you have that. Apparently if the OD is engaged the tranny won't shift.
Guest Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 This might help http://forums.aaca.org/topic/297867-1937-chrysler-will-not-go-into-reverse/
Spinneyhill Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Not going into second gear sounds like a gear lever linkage problem. There will be something broken or very worn or not lubricated in the system. You will need to look at all the joints, possibly with an assistant moving the gear lever. 1
Royal39 Posted September 5, 2017 Author Posted September 5, 2017 I will look into it. Im not sure if it has overdrive. Sorry for my ignorance would you know how to confirm if i do? Thank you
keiser31 Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 Is there a big button on the lower area of the dashboard that says, "OD"? Or maybe a chrome button to the lower left of the steering column? 1
Spinneyhill Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 (edited) If you have OD and it is engaged, you will have freewheeling up to about 30 mph. Then when you lift off it will change into OD. If it doesn't do that, but you have a knob with a long stalk behind it sticking out as keiser31 says, it will be there but disengaged. If you can reverse, it must be disengaged if OD is fitted.
