Original Coachbuilder Drawings - 1922-1930 - SEEKING INFORMATION!

I have a group of 5 original drawings that look to have been created by a coachbuilder. All are signed "R. Steffen" and dated between 1922 and 1930 - they depict designs based on Rolls Royce, Hispano Suiza, Avions Voisin and Lancia cars.

These were clearly produced by a talented professional but I have not been able to find any information. I acquired them from a collector in France.

Any information about these would be greatly appreciated - biography of the designer, the firm they worked for, etc.

Thanks in advance!

Mike.

Hi mike. Contact The Mullin Museum in Oxnard , CA. If there is an answer to be found , you have a good chance for a lead there. It is the preeminent French car museum. Make it a "must do" to visit this museum by reservation on the one or two Saturdays a month it is open to the public. Schedule an early tour after a hearty breakfast , and linger on until closing time. The docents are highly informed and accessible. Float around , and participate in , or at least listen in to the spontaneous discussions hosted by the docents after the formal tours. Good luck , and please let us know what you find out.  - Carl

I think I remember these being discussed in some detail online somewhere - maybe even here a while back. Anyone else remember?

I did post these a while back (Maybe 3-6 months ago) and received a number of helpful general replies. However, no one was able to conclusively identify either the artist or their company, so I am trying a reposting

Hi,

I am one of the librarians working for the AACA Library & Research Center. We do not appear to have material pertaining to this artist, although we do have files on a few automotive artists (ie: A. Radebaugh & A. Kow).

It might be worth your while to reach out to the National Library of France. A good starting point might be art encyclopedias:

http://www.bnf.fr/en/tools/a.welcome_to_the_bnf.html

If you do find out anything further, please feel free to pass on your findings to the AACA Library because we would be happy to start a file on this artist. Best of luck with your hunt!

Hi Matthew,

Thank you very much for the suggestion and for taking the time to look into this! I really appreciate it and will reach out to the National Library this weekend. I will definitely update the AACA library (as well as in this thread) if I am able to learn anything more about these.

Regards,
Mike.
