dix40 Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 I am selling this one owner GTO for my friend's widow. wish I had the money to buy it. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B9AYEvp8JR58WGJnRHYyX3ViSjA Enjoy the look.
capngrog Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 That's a nice looking car. I assume by the phone number area code that it's in the Orlando, Florida Area. Is that correct? You have my sympathy over the loss of your friend. Good luck. Cheers, Grog
padgett Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Just an observation but the VIN on the build sheet 242670P310997 does not come up as a Florida car, though it is correct for a '70 GTO 'vert. Is it titled in New York ? Up top it does look like a nice base car.

Looking at the paperwork included in the O.P.'s linked information, it appears that the car was originally sold by a dealer in Rochester, New York. That could explain why the VIN research doesn't come up as a Florida car. Padgett, you're in the Orlando area, why not go take a look at this GTO? Cheers, Grog
dix40 Posted September 3, 2017 Author Posted September 3, 2017 The car was purchased in NY in 1970. Then he moved to FL (FL inspection) and then to GA.They were in GA for over 30 years. the car is titled (registered) to his wife as a GA car. I brought it here to FL to sell it. Padgett, Paisley is 45 minutes from Sanford. Come over anytime. I guarantee this is the real thing. capngrog- thank you. He was my friend of 56 years.
D Yaros Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 When I google the VIN i get this? http://www.fossilcars.com/pontiac/gto/835267

It is/was for sale in the FossilCars/Gateway Classic Cars Atlanta showroom, and I wonder how old that listing is. I'm assuming that dix40's posts are the latest information on the car and that FossilCars has been a bit slow in removing the listing. But, then, we all know what happens when we assume ... Cheers, Grog
dix40 Posted September 6, 2017 Author Posted September 6, 2017 She had it at Gateway classic cars on commission. They advertise it in many sites. They add a hefty commission to it. I brought it to FL to sell commission free. And to eliminate her having to show the car and the hassles of selling it. If not sold privately, I will have it at the January Mecum auction in Kissimmee.

It will help others who may want to sell a car in a similar manner, or who may want to buy a car from them. Auctioning a car isn't the best way to get a good price, by the way. Consider that there may be a 10% buyer's fee and a 10% seller's fee. Indirectly, YOU are paying both fees. For round numbers, if a car is worth $50,000, I would bid only $45,000, knowing that I'd have to pay a fee on top of that; and you would get only $40,500 after the seller's fee is deducted. That's right! Only $40,000 for a $50,000 car. Edited September 6, 2017 by John_S_in_Penna (see edit history)
dix40 Posted September 8, 2017 Author Posted September 8, 2017 Gateway gets a minimum of 12.5% of the selling price. you tell them what price you want and they add about 20% to it. This gives them some negotiating room to make the sake. They want about $250 signing fee but it can be waived (ours was). Exclusive right to sell during the contract period (varies and can be extended month by month). re:" Auctioning a car isn't the best way to get a good price," private sales, commission shops and auctions all have pros and cons. I've done them all. private sale, smaller audience that expect a deal " will you take...", more personal commission shop, advertisied, commission, has to have a good reputation auction, an audience with a pocketful of money ready to buy. add auction fever. a 46 Indian w/ side car recently sold for 100K. value of that bike would be around 35K ,tops. Parts on it were wrong. This is the exception of course. basic economics: the price a seller will sell for and a buyer will pay. BINGO A lot like fishing- try different lures and different areas until you get some action.
padgett Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 Mecum Kissimmee is a good place for a car like this. Will appeal to those in the skyboxes but as mentioned appears to be pretty much a base car with a few power and appearance options. Hope it is well protected or the question may be moot.
