nzcarnerd Posted August 27, 2017 Posted August 27, 2017 (edited) This lot of pics is from a show held in Oamaru, a town about three hours south of Christchurch. Pics courtesy of various contributors to facebook. There were plenty of American cars but I have tried to put in cars which would not usually be seen in the US. The black '60 Fairlane would be a New Zealand assembled car, kit sourced from Canada, 332 and three on the tree. I know someone who owns one. The gear shifter and clutch mechanism is unique to these for right hand drive. The red and white, very old, roadster is a 1911 Clement Bayard. Edited August 28, 2017 by nzcarnerd (see edit history) 1
Spinneyhill Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 Pleased you got a nice day. It was raining a lot here. Thanks for the photo's. There are a few memories there! My cousin rallied a Hillman Imp - nice one shown above. My uncle had a green Vanguard 4 (Mudguard we called them) similar to the bronze one. Dad's friend and work mate had a green Holden like DN8348 (1967?). Mark 3 Zephyrs often finished up with young women towing their horse float around. Humber Super Snipes (and Hawks) were favourite demolition derby cars for a while.

Anytime you want some basic details about a car in NZ just dial the plate into carjam. Usually works but it is only as good as the info fed into it. https://www.carjam.co.nz/
nzcarnerd Posted August 28, 2017 Author Posted August 28, 2017 (edited) A few more from another event the same day in the Wairarapa area of the lower North Island. Again credit to others for the photos. For those that don't recognise the befinned yellow and white car, it is a 1957 Simca Vedette Chambord powered by a development of the pre WW2 Ford V8-60 engine. The Vintage Chrysler roadster is a 1927 Model 70. Edited August 28, 2017 by nzcarnerd (see edit history)
nzcarnerd Posted August 28, 2017 Author Posted August 28, 2017 And a small selection from another event held in Central Otago in the lower South Island.
Terry Bond Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 Fantastic! Thanks for sharing. In all my travels overseas courtesy of the USN I learned that vintage motoring is the universal language. Recently took a trip to Iceland and found the hobby alive and well there too. Terry
TerryB Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 Great photos! I enjoy seeing how some US cars were reworked for the export market. The Morris Minors are one of my favorite cars.
8E45E Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 Thanks for the excellent photos. And we sure appreciate how all the mid-to-late '70's Australian market Fords and Chrysler products were spared of those ugly 5-mph bumpers we were burdened with here in North America. Craig
