1928 - 1930 Chevrolet Pickup

Recommended Posts

Can someone assist with potentially identifying the exact year of a Chevrolet pickup I have.

All I have found to date for numbers is off the RH side of the block.

Any assistance to decode these numbers would be great.

Apparently the serial number tag was factory nailed to the passenger side floor near the moulding.

Nothing found yet.

Also looking for a hood, rad shell, and tailgate for this truck.

thanks,

If I have read correctly the casting date is November 17 1928. Should be the last of the 4's and have 4 wheel brakes

Thank you gentleman.

I kind of thought it was a 1928.

Knowing now that the K178 is the date and the 4 is a four cylinder.

Can you direct me to a site to decode all the numbers.

I would like to see what else I can glean from those numbers.

835501 is the casting number for 1929-30 Chevrolet engine blocks.  This should be a six cylinder engines with an updraft Carter carb.

K178 is the month/day/year code for the date the block was cast.  I don't know if GM used the letter I in the month sequence, so the K would either signify October or November.  The block was produced in late 1928 for the 1929 model year.

The stamped number is the engine serial number.  I believe truck engines had a "T" prefix to the serial number so the engine you have may not be original to your truck.

For reference, the four cylinder engine block casting number used in 1928 is 348532.

I asked the www and found this. Only took a moment.

There is also this web site.

and this one:

Perhaps you can confirm the wheelbase?

I agree with Tom, 835501 is the casting number for both 1929 and 1930 Chevrolet engine and  a 17 November 1928  Casting date for an early 1929 engine sounds reasonable.
