David_Leech Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 I feel like I'm driving with blinders on having no mirrors. I have been looking at what options I have and think the '35-'40 Ford door hinge pin mirrors might be the ticket. What are the opinions on installing these long curved arm ones upside down from the upper door hinge? There are also short straight ones but I feel they will be too far up to be useful. These should hang down into a more conventional location. If I had Photoshop I could see how they looked Thoughts and opinions?
keiser31 Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 (edited) I use this and it works very well for me....previous owner got it from a Model A Ford reproduction parts house. Edited August 9, 2017 by keiser31 (see edit history)
Spinneyhill Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 I am trying clamp-ons on my Dodge 8. Seem to be OK. I made some paint savers out of thick gasket paper to put against the paint. Not so easy to set and easy to bump in the garage (so I drape a retired tea towel over them). 3 hours ago, keiser31 said: I use this and it works very well for me....previous owner got it from a Model A Ford reproduction parts house. John, what is the hinge width that mirror caters for? The DC hinge is 45 mm wide (1.77", probably 1.75" plus paint).
David_Leech Posted August 10, 2017 Author Posted August 10, 2017 The Ford mirrors are for 2.25" hinges
keiser31 Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 (edited) Here are the dimensions....looks about the same to me....is that the dimension that you were asking about? Edited August 10, 2017 by keiser31 (see edit history)

Thank you both. It looks like the Model A ones will work. Here is my test clamp-on. It is a NZ made mirror, probably from the '60s. There is just enough room to fit it in without hitting the pillar. nearchoclatetown Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 I have a mirror just like John's, the short one. It works very well. If the arm is too long they vibrate and you can't see anything. 1
