Vintageben Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 So finally got back to getting the sump off my 1929 Chrysler 65 and most things look ok but in the bottom of the sump were these 2 items any ideas were they are from appreciated I'm thinking valve train the pen I the photo is just to give you an idea of size of parts. Thanks for any help
Sasha39 Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 (edited) Yes they lock the springs into place on the valves, you haven't taken any of your valves out have you? Are all your valves in properly and are all the locks in place? Could be someone replaced a few valves a while back and dropped a few locks into the engine and didn't bother to retrieve them. Vintageben Posted August 9, 2017 Author Posted August 9, 2017 Yep that's what I thought. Yeah checked all the valves then checked them again they along with the keepers are all present and correct so I guess I did get some spare parts with this car ? just hidden . May be some one lazy has worked on this car at some point. Just another question do I need a special valve spring compressor for removing valves or Something standard do the job a picture would be great so I know what I'm looking for. Thanks
Sasha39 Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 I guess if you had something like one of these it would do the trick.
Sasha39 Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 This shows you what the tip that lifts the spring should look like.
Guest Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 Those were OHV compressors, this is the kind you need. If you are doing this a dab of grease in the center of the keeper will keep it stuck to your finger until you transfer it to the valve stem.

Rusty_OToole Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 It appears someone dropped a couple of keepers while doing a valve job and it was easier to get new ones than take off the pan. As you can see they laid in the bottom of the pan and did no harm.
Vintageben Posted August 9, 2017 Author Posted August 9, 2017 Thanks guys. Pictures are always so much easier than words. I think I will leave the pan off until I finish the valve work just in case!!! Thanks again
Sasha39 Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 Yes Spinneyhill, that was the 1928 engine I gave to Maok to rebuild for his car.
