jan arnett (2) Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 (edited) I am trying to test my generator on my 1923 Moon. It is a DELCO generator and it is driven by a chain. I have taken it to two shops and none of them can test it without a pulley on the front. I am thinking about putting a pulley on the rear and driving it that way Any suggestions as to how to test it and risk of driving it from the rear. Does anyone make replacement id plates for the generator. Thanks Jan Edited August 2, 2017 by jan arnett (2) none (see edit history)
Mark Shaw Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 Chuck it up on an electric drill to run your test.
Bud Tierney Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 You didn't say what the problem was (lo charge, no charge, singing, etc) but if that's an inspection strap you might pop that off and eyeball the brushes, commutator etc... If your brushes are down something probably can be mickey-moused in if originals NLA;---weak brush springs might be more problematical---if commutator darkened might just need a little careful cleaning...... 1
jan arnett (2) Posted August 4, 2017 Author Posted August 4, 2017 Bud: I pulled this Moon about twenty years ago out of a barn and finally have the the time to restore it. The way the continential (Moon) engine is you have to remove the whole front part of the engine to replace the generator if bad. I wanted to ensure that the generator is working before installing it. The brushes look good and the bearings are tight. I used to have a growler but loaned it out and it never found its way home. Thanks for the question. Jan
