RansomEli Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 Most of the food at antique car swaps meets is so-so or less. Some meets, however, do have some treats worth buying. The Pomona swap meet has some booths grilling carne asada. The aroma alone sells the tacos/burritos. Chickasha used to have some private organization run the food service. They had a rather decent Frito Pie. It's a Texas/Oakie thing. What about other swap meets?

Oddly we had what you call Frito Pie growing up in Indiana and I actually bought the goodies to make them last month as a reminder of my youth, but we called them "Texas Straw Hats" in the Midwest!
DAVE A Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 You can't overlook my favorite...... Hershey turkey legs!!!!
motoringicons Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 Although I haven't been in a few years, the FRIED cheese curds at the Iola Swap Meet and Car Show were amazing. Carlisle always had some good food vendors. I remember one booth near the back hill that had the best breakfast sandwiches. When it comes to food, swap meets are like carnivals. You eat all of the good "bad" food that you don't get at home.
Brass is Best Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 The calzones at the bottom of the stairs in Hershey are pretty good.
Terry Bond Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 (edited) Hershey is tops for sure. Of course my swap space is located just across from the crab-cake vendor! I can remember years ago when food service was sketchy and the best available was actually out the back side of the old Blue Field at the Parkview tavern, or one of the several front-porch home based eateries that sprung up during the week. We've come a long way. Second choice would have to be Chesapeake Region's annual swap meet at Howard County fairgrounds. The region handles their own food for the event, and their home-made soup and other goodies always sell out. Terry Edited August 1, 2017 by Terry Bond (see edit history) 1
Jim Bollman Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 Years ago I always had to have a large curly fries with vinegar at Dunkirk for lunch. As I got older I still did but paid for it on the ride home with indigestion. Then the last few times I went I just remembered how good they were and ate something less greasy.

rcr Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 I look forward to several events where Sherri's vends and the old Parkside at Hershey is a constant , consistent pleaser. https://www.sherriscrabcakes.com/
dl456 Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 Any body remember the apple dumplings at Hershey? Or the fireman's food in the white field? Dennis
John348 Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 I did not find the vendor at Hershey who had the soda mugs with the free refills. Not so much for the soda, but I had collected the mugs
Brass is Best Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 L.A. Roadster Show always has a great taco truck. The Auburn Auction / Swap Meet back in the Kruse days had the best BBQ pork chop and BBQ Chicken dinner one could hope to find.
Joe in Canada Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Not flee market but the best burritos were off a truck across from the u pick it yard in Albuquerque. Would go there after our pilgrimage to the swap meet at Los Lunas.
61polara Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 Anyone else remember the grilled chicken quarters at Carsile in the '70's?
rcr Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 1/2 grilled chicken and roll $3.00 or a complete dinner for $4.50 for years at Carlisle. It couldn't be beat!
1937hd45 Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 (edited) Folks across the street from us at the end of Main Street in the Chocolate field, they start pouring coffee as soon as they see our truck roll in. Bob Edited September 8, 2017 by 1937hd45 (see edit history)
