abelincoln Posted July 23, 2017 Posted July 23, 2017 Adrian: Not familiar with flatomatic, but have torn apart several ford automatics. Sounds to me like very low oil level or something in the torque converter isn't getting pressure to the connection. The C4 is generally pretty rugged. If you are adventuresome, get a later model with more gears and adapt to open drive line or fab a torque tube adapter. Abe
19tom40 Posted July 23, 2017 Posted July 23, 2017 No power is a very general term. It could be transmission or engine related. Does the engine rev up nicely and sound strong with no missing? Have you checked the compression on the engine? Does the engine have good spark? Does the transmission go through all of the gears or does it shift sluggishly? How quickly does the car go from 0 mph to 40 mph? Does the engine seem to race like a slipping clutch when you accelerate?
adyv8 Posted July 23, 2017 Author Posted July 23, 2017 hi both the engine has been overhauled and all is ok yes it does/ race engine seem to race like a slipping clutch when you accelerate speed 0 to 40 forever will do 18 in first 40 in second but only 50 in 3 rd revving its heart out in all gears also have to drive it like a manual wont play in drive best example took car for a tracking steering check would not go on ramp engine revving no torque / power to go on ramp ?? crawled in the end on ramp oil level correct running in park e.t.c. have adjusted the vac unit no help as gene at flatomatic said up any hill rubbish please scratch your brains thanks ady
adyv8 Posted July 24, 2017 Author Posted July 24, 2017 hi I have had the axle overhauled and a open drive kit fitted speedway crown wheel and pinion 3.54 no overdrive thanks ady
19tom40 Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 Your engine may not be providing the correct vacuum for the modulator. Is the hose connection at the modulator the same diameter as the engine port? The fluid level should be checked with the shift lever in Drive and the transmission at operating temperature. Here is a link to a trouble shooting guide for the C4 transmission. http://diyford.com/ford-c4-c6-transmission-trouble-shooting-guide/
Ken/Alabama Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 Sounds like something not correct with the transmission. Fluid level, slipping , bad torque converter .
peecher Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 Sounds like one of two things could be wrong: either the one way stator clutch in the torque convertor is bad/slipping or the main forward clutch in the transmission is slipping. If the slipping is present in Reverse I suspect the problem is in the torque convertor.
adyv8 Posted July 25, 2017 Author Posted July 25, 2017 hi thanks for the reply's back with the man who overhauled the box will let you know what he finds thanks ady
