Vintagecarguy Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Hello all, my grandfather recently bought a 1939 Cadillac 61 sedan. We were wondering where the serial number is located? Thanks in advance. Vintagecarguy.
Grimy Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 On the top of the frame, left side. Remove the left "side panel" after opening hood. The number is roughly in the center of the space as you're looking into the engine compartment. You may find a wire brush helpful.
39BuickEight Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 (edited) If it's anything like a Buick, which could very well be, there are 2 matching frame serial numbers on it. On on the left front top of the frame, riveted, under the hood. The other isn't visible with the body on--it's on the left rear stamped on the top of the frame. The engine will have a different number. When I say left, in this case, its the left looking from the front of the car. Edited July 8, 2017 by 39BuickEight (see edit history)

I will give these locations a look when I am next at my grandfather's house. Thanks again. Vintagecarguy.
Grimy Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 I haven't owned a '39 Buick, but I did own a 1939 Cad 75 for 42 years...
