Hello,

New to the forums. How does one fix a leak on the engine block of a oil pressure line?

Acquired a 55 Roadmaster, the oil gauge did not work, check the block. It had a plug in it. so I removed the plug and reinstalled the pressure line. Oil started dripping out. so now I have the plug back in!!

Is there a quick fix or do you have sent it out???

Thank you,

Bob

If it wasn't leaking with the plug in it you probably need to replace the fitting on the end on the line.  Or perhaps there should be an elbow or other fitting between the block and the line.

There is no easy quick fix the first time you do anything you've never done before.

The car is 60+ years old, if someone else hasn't done this before you got the car, there should be more than enough line to work with and cutting it back an inch or two and putting a new flare on the end can be done at home in a few minutes. Will probably take longer to run down to the auto parts store for the flaring tool and when it's your first time, you might have to flare it a couple of times to get a good seal.

Because motors move you do need to have some slack and if you're to short for slack loop, you will need to splice or make a new line. Plumbing is plumbing, if a fitting was removed so the plug could be put in, you will need to get one of those to fit the motor and the line end, these fittings can be found at most home stores in the plumbing department.

If you're dripping up at the fitting at the back of the gage you probably need a new gasket, good old fashion hardware store will be the easiest place to find one that will work.

If the gage itself is leaking, you have a choice between repair or replace.
