Hi Lance

Just curious who you are using for chrome and what it cost to plate the window frames. I want to do a set for a 58 Convertible and don't want the pieces lost of damaged.

Thanks

Steve

Steve, I'll send you a PM in the near future...

Doors, fenders, and hood are all stripped and hosed down with black epoxy.

Slight delay getting the car up to the body shop…silver 70 GS conv is in the way and I can’t move it until it goes away for conv top install.

Back at it after a minor bout with the ‘rona.  Not everything in Vegas stays in Vegas.

all dry blocking is done on doors, fenders, and hood.  All hosed down with 2K surfacer.  I cleaned up the floor a bit so I could get it dirty again with the body, and drove the car up to the body shop.  I’ve already masked off the dash and engine compartment.  Tomorrow, I’ll start ripping the old paint off the body shell.

of course one image has to load upside down.  You’d think forum software would have an edit feature at this point for stuff like that.

Since the body shell and trunk lid have to cure for a few days before I start knocking them down with 400, I started on the panels that were completed a couple weeks ago.

Dry guide coat applied, dry blocked with 400 grit, then wet blocked with 600.

I also hung the doors this morning and aligned.  They are a pinch high on the back side because once they are loaded with glass, chrome, and power window regulators, they will pull down level.

The little spots where I have spot putty applied are pin holes or deeper scratches that I missed when doing body work.

This place is a complete pigsty.  I can’t wait to get this all blocked out so I can blow out and power wash.

Wet blocked with 600 and pretty much ready for color!

As soon as I scoop up the 1/2” of slurry on the garage floor and power wash everything, I can get this thing sprayed.

I haven’t decided for sure yet, but I may have to split the paint work into two pieces.  Fenders, trunk lid, hood, and small bits in one shot…then body shell in the other.  I’m not really a fan of doing it this way, but I don’t think I can comfortably fit everything in the garage at once with adequate room to move around with the gun/hose/spacesuit.

I did find out yesterday that my wood body stands work great to hold these fenders exactly the way I want them.  Sitting on those tubular body stands just doesn’t work for these.

I think I’m going to shoot it all at once.  Looks like I can make it work now that I have everything cleaned up in there.  Just need that paint to get here.  I have the roof paint but the sylvan gray I got at the paint store was too blue.  So I ended up ordering Base from TCP Global early last week.  I put a rush on it…we will see if that pays off.

After some thought, I decided it would be a good idea to get the roof painted before I tackled the rest of the car.  This thing sits so tall that I need stools on each side of the car to reach the middle of the roof and I don’t trust myself to not drag my shirt or kick the doors trying to hit the roof.

Sooooo it’s white now.

In the garage until 1:30am over night…got it done, though.  I’ve moved it down to the big shop so I can get some small paint work done in other stuff.  While I wait for this to outgas, I’ll be working on getting door an quarter glass fitted.  After a couple weeks, I’ll knock the orange peel down and buff it out.

I’ve been putzing around with installing door guts while waiting on paint to cure. Yesterday afternoon I started wet sanding with 1000 grit.  Body is sanded, and one fender is done.  I still have to flip the trunk lid over and hose it with paint…that may happen tomorrow if I get tired of sanding, which is highly possible.
