From past experience, I have not had responses to a transporter  needed ad in the "trailer wanted" section, so I am posting here.

If this is inappropriate, please advise .......

I am looking to buy a Corvair in Boise, Idaho, will need it transported to Asheville, NC.

I NEED THE INFO BELOW TO PUT A DEAL TOGETHER.

Please advise of transport cost, available date, and open or enclosed.

Contact me via P.M. or email me  at ........ bobg1951chevy@ellijay.com

Thank you,

Bob. 6-13-2017.

If you have access to a current or recent copy of Hemmings Motor News, look in the classifieds section under "Services Offered" for Auto Transport.  There are quite a few ads for auto transport in this section.  If you don't have access to the hard print copy, try this link to the online Hemmings edition:  https://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/?q=auto+transport

That should get you started.  I personally have used Reliable Auto Transport in the past and have been quite satisfied with them; however, there are many other reputable firms offering auto transport services.  The latest "gusstimate" figures that I've seen are somewhere around $1.00 per mile for covered transport.  There are apparently several reputable firms that can beat that price, but I have had no experience with them.

Good luck, and hopefully, after your experience, you'll be able to recommend a good auto transporter on this forum.

After extensive research I used Montway to ship the '57. They are a broker so your experience depends greatly on who drives for you. I had a good experience and have friends who have also.

I have also heard good things about Reliable. They were about 2600 vs. 2000 enclosed for my run from Tx to Or. The east coast is cheaper then my run and so is open transport. I checked Tx to Nh and although similar mileage, it was quite a bit cheaper because there are more truck routes that way.

I shared this with Bob but thought I'd post here in case anyone else is interested.

Here is a link to an online quote with Montway. They kept $199 and the driver kept the rest.

V.L., After you shared with me, I made contact with Montway and Reliable. Using both enclosed estimates, Montway is approximately $800 less for a trip from Oregon to NC.    But ...... Montway is a broker, where Reliable is not.

From what I've heard and read, using a broker can be a "crap shoot", but as in everything else, if you perform a "due diligence" research into a particular broker, you can increase your chances of having a good experience.   If you decide to use a broker, try to find one that has been in business for a long time, and look at a sample contract carefully.  Such things as who is responsible for INSURANCE, delivery date windows, open vs. closed transport etc.  Also, check with your insurance company to find out if they have any requirements for an auto transporter.

Hopefully, there are some on this forum who can share their experiences with brokered auto transporters.

Another thought just escaped my brane cell.  Enter "auto transport" in the "search" area located at the top right corner of this page, and this will bring up previous posts/threads on auto transport.

Back three months ago, in March, I was given a name of a transporter, I'm not certain if it was on this site or not.

This husband and wife team, who reside in Oregon or Washington, will travel cross country at a reasonable rate.
They also travel to Fairbanks Alaska Auto Museum, but the museum doesn't open until 4 p.m. eastern time.

I cannot find my info, but need their names, if anyone recalls.

I'm looking to transport from the Pacific Northwest area to Western NC.

If anyone recalls who these folks may be, I would be most appreciative. .... A not so common name for the company, as I recall.

Thanks,
Bob.
