Mudbone Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 I picked this distributor up at a local car show swap meet 1
avgwarhawk Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 The shipping/packaging cover is interesting. Good point on the cam. Very serviceable NOS distributor.
old-tank Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 That 55 distributor gear is compatible with the original steel 55 cam. All replacement cams are cast material and theoretically not compatible with the 55 gear. 56 distributor gear and later would be compatible. I have never seen or heard of a failure...maybe modern lubricants?
1953mack Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 (edited) The Delco-Remy tag indicates the distributor was built on March 5, 1954. That might be one of the 1954 distributors that . . . was noisy and had unsteady operation due to loose center bearings in the two-piece breaker plate . . . and was addressed in more detail in a Buick service bulletin. Replacement of the breaker plate with a newer assembly was suggested. Al Malachowski BCA #8965 "500 Miles West of Flint" Edited June 11, 2017 by 1953mack (see edit history)
NTX5467 Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 To me, one of the compelling reasons to get that part is the cam that has no wear on it. Plus the shaft bushings and such, too. The breaker plate issue can be fixed with a simple swap-out for a known-good one. Same with the vac adv parts. Good find! NTX5467
