What color is my rear end ?

Recommended Posts

On my 1950 Buick, I am stripping off all the mud and grease from 50 years and I am starting to see the true colors.
It looks like the front of the rear end where the torque tube connects is red not black like I would expect it to be.
Could this be true ? Its a 1950 Buick Estate Wagon model 59.
Thanks
Bill

On my 61 chev. the rear end center section was painted red from the factory.
I used Dupont's Corlar (two part epoxy) to duplicate this color.
The floor pans (top & bottom) get the same treatment.
impala

My 55 Pontiac was also red when I scrapped off all the old dirt and grease however I have also saw them in black on unrestored cars. Red is your best bet.
