Guest County62 Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 I am looking for any information on this Potter trunk. Vehicle Years used on, value of it, thanks for any help.
keiser31 Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 Looks like 1928-1933. Many makes used them. I have seen them go from $50.00 to $300.00. Look at Ebay "completed listings" and see what they go for.
Rusty_OToole Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 Potter did make a trunk with the front contoured to fit against a 34 Ford sedan body. They may have made others but I have only seen the Ford ones. Other than that, they were somewhat generic. As Keiser said they would fit many different cars. One thing I wonder about, did Potter make mounting kits to fit different cars? Or did you buy a luggage rack and fit the trunk to that?
Mark Shaw Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 This one may not be for a car because it is hinged below the lid on the back. Therefore, it could not be mounted close to the back of a car without damaging paint when opening.

It could be for a car with a trunk or rumble seat averaging around 19" for a 30 / 31 car. Closed cars had a taller trunk with a lower value but this one looks like a lowboy. Very similar to a Cadillac trunk with different locks and trim where the lid joins the bottom section. Is it wood lined or cardboard. Also the handles are missing but no big deal. There are 4 holes in the bottom 9 1/2" x 23 1/2" apart if that would help.
Guest County62 Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 The floor is wood and I see no sign of it ever having handles. It measures 34 long by 14 deep by 13 tall.
Walt G Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 Not all car trunks had handles, the painted metal ones especially lacked this feature. Even though the hinges to hold the lid are lower it doesn't mean that this couldn't have been mounted fairly close to the body of the car, the lid when raised did not necessarily go up to a 90 degree angle, . Trunk racks on most cars were factory equipped and not after market equipped accessories, but the variety of trunks was almost endless , metal or fabric covered, with or with out suit case combinations for their inside. Prices quoted as to value are accurate, the higher price is for a trunk in near mint condition needing no attention or repaint.
keiser31 Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 (edited) Not that big of a deal, but do you have the key to that lock? Edited June 6, 2017 by keiser31 (see edit history)
Joe in Canada Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 The key for my trunk is a blank that has not been cut.
