Guest speedfreek155 Posted May 22, 2017 Posted May 22, 2017 First , I hope this is the correct place , as I usually post in Reatta , Asking this question for a friend I'm trying to help . He has a swapped 2 power steering pumps , but when he starts car the wheel turns on its own , sometimes semi-violently . He hash't changed box or rack , I have not been able to even find any trouble that resembles this description . Any input would be greatly appreciated and Thanks in advance , Bill
NTX5467 Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 Whenever the wheel turns by itself, of close to it, the valving in the gear is having an issue. In the old Chrysler power steering gears, there was a procedure to "center" the valve so it would not do that. A "tap and see" procedure, at best. When the valve is centered, things act as they should. Glad things worked out well! NTX5467
dan at larescorp Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 That was definitely a control valve issue inside of the rack. Rack and pinion systems wont have an adjustment for the control valve like the Chrysler gear that NTX5467 is talking about. The only solution is a new rack. I know you've resolved this already, but it never hurts to put this information on here for the next guy searching for a solution to this issue.
Guest speedfreek155 Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 I agree , never too much information on these types of posts . Thank You for the input
